There is really not many options out there that I know off.

Akunar Standard: Cheap time bomb.

Akunar Pro R: Has a 15mm pin and needs lots of machining.

JE Ninja pistons. Expensive very heavy and need lots and lots of machining. Especially if you are running bigger valves.

I do remember someone talking about another piston that would go in. Might have been from a 600. Or another twin. Can't remember.

Thats what I have used and still are using. Best option would be a custom designed 64.1mm 12:5.1 piston.
Anyone got any other options please share for the good of the group.

Hehe hamish still has one ;). Don't wiseco make custom pistons, for not such a terrible price?

Get bro Kev to go and see Dick Chapman at Pro Turn with a sample piston.
Dick is the agent for Arias pistons and I've had batches of Aermacchi pistons done through him.

As far as the weight goes, you're limited by what size forging blanks the company you use has. One size blank does a range of bores, wall thickness getting thicker as the bore size increases. If no one has a blank which will give you a thin wall, prepare to do a lot of machining....
I showed Kev a 61mm wiseco from a FZR600 Yamaha - but it's thick wall too....

Yeah Kevin is not that keen to do much looking and mucking around. Bigger fish to fry I think. Maybe the JE forged are a good option if they were batch machined.

I am all sorted for pistons for some while. Just really want to put some info out for people looking to mod there FXR engines. The piston is one of the biggest handy caps for sure.

I thought it was because it fires twice then has a two stroke hissy fit and munts the piston.

Might be worth talking to Mr Akunar. The Pro R pistons are good and thin wall. Also dirt cheap. They just don't do one thats goes straight in.

I dont know what all the fuss is about, everyone knows that a motor wont rev out if the compression is to high. Mr Suzuki made those dished pistons for a reason, show some respect!

Yeah they will rev out. Eventually. Mr Suzuki did a very good job design ing our favorite little race engine for sure. Just needs little tweaking.

Last time I emailed to Ranuka; he stated he could supply nearly anything needed (looking at a solution for a 450cc).. maybe it is a case to emailing him the full spec of what your after,,,

If anyone finds a 64mm Akunar piston and a set of race cams in their letter box, they are mine! Apparently my order from Akunar arrived in NZ (or not) on 18th July and havent been seen since .... :eek5:

Yeah they sent those to me too, but no use to me, could have tied them onto the side of the engine perhaps, meh, - so I passed them on to our valient leader. You deserve them fish.

I can't remember off the top of my head, the 400s are 14mm piston pins though, but if the 600 is bigger/smaller than the FXR rod, just sleeve it and run tabs instead of gudgeon clips?

No listing for a 64mm piston I can find. They do have a 16mm pin so that at least is correct. If only there was a 2mm oversize ninja 250 piston. I have a standard piston in my hand and it is nice and light with bigish pockets. But they will only go to 63.

94 and 95 ZZR600 pistons are 64mm. Can't find spec but I am sure your local Kawasaki dealer will have the info.

Yeah that one looks a little better than the JE one I have in my hand. The JE has a bigger skirt. I can't remember the deck hight that is needed but I think if you got one of them all you might have to do is take a 1mm off the top. or what ever it is needs. Valve configuration is a little different so not ideal but a better option than the JE maybe.

As we are discussing this in an open forum, I know of one bike that run the particular piston in question. It run for about 30min total before the piston decided it did not want to be contained in the cylinder anymore.

Classic case of a transplant rejection. The donor engine was clearly not compatible. Deck hight you need is 13.75. I think the Ninja pistons are 15. Some should buy a wiseco piston and do the piston to valve and setup for 12.5:1 and away you go. good pistons and not much machining until you get all super custom on the cams.

I have a 62mm forged JE doing noting if someone wants to give me a hundie.

The E onwards 600 are light and 64mm

All ZZR600s are 64mm piston, '93 onwards had a lighter piston and different gap for the rod small end

If the deck height is on the piss, get the grinder out :niceone:
