So it has began the first card picked up........4 more to go and a few more miles:woohoo:
The day started out with bumping into people you know"if you know what I mean" One being a dodgey looking character on a RF900 making his way to the Gladdy...we get a Message at 8:45 from monnie (we in otaki)guest the ashhurst crowd(YOD,MEANIE,MONNIE) left on time LATE:facepalm: nothing new there but they did arrive in Upper hutt just after 9:30,So all good there too make the 10am departure to featherstone too pick a local rappa lad Ken,over the taka's and on the down there was a group of bike's parked up,one down Damm,so did a quick cheak incase Ken had decided to ride up and meet us,No not him......works out the rider had clipped a barrier and opened his leg up(hope your ok who ever you are)........Arriving in Featherston and ken is waiting super right quick catch-up and off down the western access too lake Ferry which was a super ride and enjoyed by all a quick draw of the cards and its funny how they can play out don't fink the young lass understood the meaning of shuffle the cards....with all being the same suit and all in numerical order...
Then it was suggested we go too the gladdy for lunch,as its an old stomping grown and work place so up to cape pope and tablelands the roads were great and pace was on that all enjoyed arriving at the Gladdy ,I spot that dodgey character on the RF900,along with alot of other bikes parked outside always has been a bike destination and great too see it still is.....do the luch order and head out the back where the Wgtn group were....we chatted and good too see more old faces that haven't been seen for a while, the food despite being awhile was awesome and we weren't in any rush so it didn't matter(ok YOD was in a rush something about new gear)
After Lunch we made our way back too Masterton in true biker fasion the long and twisty way,and it was along that way Yod attempted to shunt "the Dog" arriving in Masterton for fuel too see Sarge and Owl waiting for us so time too talk shite and plan our next leg through too Woodville, back roads hell yeah :innocent:
Ken leading the ride actually he led the whole way from featherston which was good its his local roads and the rest of us just enjoyed the ride......getting too woodville we say goodbye's too Yod who was heading onto to Napier for goodies Honestly that lad( is like a kid in a candy store )
and the rest off us headed back to the Ashhurst inn for a well deserved coffee by some coke by others etc
We had a super day with great roads and weather and most of all Awesome People
and only
5 SLEEPS UNTIL THE NEXT LEG

Great day out....
As a few have previously suggested, I was mildly keen to go for a pootle. Met up with M+M about 7am and waited for all you no-shows, then left. Found a lovely bunch of cyclists just after Linton who thought they owned the road (don't they all). Copious abuse was disseminated, as you do.
Damp all the way to Te Horo. Had to make a couple of stops to empty the nose, have a hideous cold and sore throat but Yay! Drugs! Once they kicked in properly I was sweet. Got to the paekok hill and hooray for dry road! and Boo! for more idiot cyclists who think they can keep in front of a motorbike by using the whole lane....fuck off you utter bunch of failures!! More copious abuse dished out, as you do.
Met up with Dogs and Mel at Caltex Rimutaka and a few other suspects also. Had a great run up the takas, really enjoyed it, first time that day I finally got a bit of a groove on and it felt mintastic. Descending the north side was not so hot, get past one car get stuck behind another, meh, what can you do.
Met up with Ken at the base of the hill and he lead us through the western road to Lake Ferry, never been down that way before, more mintness. Stopped for a brew and a card at the hotel and shot the shit for a time, then off up through to Martinborough at a good clip then the back way to the Gladstone. Weather was awesome, roads were epic.
Gladstone Hill, say no more.
Topped up at Masterton and bullshitted some more with a couple of the usual suspects who had finally decided to get out and about for the day. Then went up through Mauriceville, Dreyers Rock and Alfredton to Pahiatua. Utterly minty. Started off tucked in behind the 14 and was having a ball (while watching carefully in case that big knee came out), then ended up tailing the Triple at a nice pace the rest of the way....roads were in good nick. Awesome, awesome run.
Once we hit Woodville I said my goodbyes and carried on up to Bay View via SH50 to pick up the new leathers. Had a great run up in the afternoon sun, think I spotted Sandra and co heading south a little north of Dannevirke? Once on 50 I let her rip and got to Bay View in no time. By now the completely un-bike-fit Yod was feeling the wear and tear of 600km and after picking up the gear I headed to the BP for gas, a coffee and bit of a bloody rest!
I let the body recover and stretched out the ol' legs a bit while supping up the caffeinated beverage. Turns out it was just what the doctor ordered and I felt much better once back on the bike, just a little crampy in the throttle hand, meh.
Held a fairly respectable pace back down 50 as the sun started to disappear behind the western ranges. The bird was just humming along and the temperature had dropped a little to that refreshingly pleasant mid-evening cool. This is where my epic day out all started unravelling.
Got a few flashes from oncoming cars...hmmm...mr plod? No. Lights. Huh? Try the High-beam. No high-beam. Huh? looked over the front and...no head-lights at all. Arse. Indicators fine, tail lights fine, all other electrics fine. Fuse I guess. Right so I'm about 60km from Dannevirke in the gathering dusk, with no headlights on a fairly small vehicle. Combine this with the prospect of oncoming, overtaking cars and you have a recipe for disaster really. Arse.
Decided my best bet was to make considerable haste to Dannevegas. And what luck, I happen to be riding a big-arse motorbike that goes really fucking fast. Sounds like a good enough excuse to me. Shot through to Norsewood in record time but by that point it had become quite dark and I was seriously worried about not being visible, luckily enough I camE upon a ute and tailed him in to Dannevegas where I could stop and assess the problem.
Not the fuse, all fuses looked fine so after much gnashing of teeth and convulsing wildly to get my hands to fit under the fekking dash I discovered that the dip bulb looked blown and the full-beam looked fine. Didn't help really as the gas station didn't have any that matched. Well that gets me nowhere.
Meanie!! Help!! Ask and ye shall receive, and lo, the Mighty Blackbird was carted back to Palmy unceremoniously on a Holden (BIG thanks mate). Arse.
Still, 'twas a great day out up until that point and, as Monie pointed out, better to have it happen then, than halfway round East Cape next weekend! 747km covered, was supposed to be around 800, ahwell.
Cheers to all and sundry for a great start to the 4 Points!

After getting the bike sorted and Mel finishing work early on Thrusday,we headed over too Ashhurst for the night with Black clouds looming......on arrival it didn't take long for the heavens too open up:angry:and I had too go pick up my leathers from Sam at Celtic leather as he was installing and emergancy pie strip....I was lucky enough to be able to borrow Monnies car for this chore....
Once back at the meanie's we were treated too a wonderful dinner prepared by their boarder,a meal that I would off happily paid for if I was at a resturant but I wasn't this was Ashhurst....So a early night for all as we had a early start the girls wanted 6am the boys wanted 5am I wanted 10minutes before yod arrived...
Day One east cape
WoooWhoo its morning time, time to get up and on the road get breakfast in our bellies and we are on our way at 530ish first stop dannievirke yod neglected to fill his bike up the night before
On the road again some morning dampness but overall the roads were good fill up both body and bike in bayview and head onto Gisborne, roads getting dryer and the morning air warmer, another quick stop and then on too Tologa Bay wharf and the epic walk too the end and then even a bigger walk back into a head wind, not sure where the wind had came from but do know if the concours had off been parked at the begining of the Wharf we would of been sheltered it was also mentioned that the wind was caused by the girls having a conversation ahead of us
Right back on the bikes and next stop East cape ok the eastern shop this was a bit of humor as we pulled into too gas up we had to go fined the gas-up guy at the shop this took like forever but we got there then off too the RSA too get our card oh shite the Rsa is closed sign say's you can get your card at the eastern Shop(we just cam from there)so back around the block too get our card and go too the other shop too get a bite where all but I got and Ice Block/cream and as the photo susgest it looks like a old folks day out
Back on the road again and straight through to Opokiti still the roads were good and still had the uneven surface signs everywhere and a good pace kept by all not too fast not too slow just about right..some road works and some cow shit but hey this is the east coast
We fuel up and make the final push through to katikati where we are staying the night on the way we do a final top up and a booze buy (not that anyone really drank any that night ) arriving at katikati too a warm welcome by the family it didn't take long for everybody to relax let there hair down (except monnie her hair was pointing everyway but down) mom had prepared a wonderful feast for hungry bikers(as mom's do) including two types of dessert
We chattered and laughed everybody felt at home, and its not susprising how small this country is of ours but dad and meanie knew the same people from around Opiki back in the day and Yod and dad talked rugby which we knew would happen anyway
Morning time and everybody was ready for day two after a super breakfast and even better sleep the twins took Mel and monnie up too feed the pet goats and lamb and a qucik ride on the back of uncles daytona we hit the road again about 8am

Day Two Cape rengia
222154222155
the pets as you do
Well with day two its was straight to motomail and see what they have Hmmmmmm well i did look for new gloves but couldn't fine the size a wanted but did find a potential new helmet, bugger I have too go back too Auckland on Thrusday:innocent: yip that new bell daytona looks rather fitting anyway i walked out of there empty handed but did get Mel an new pair of gloves so see was happy,
Now back on the road and off too the service centre at dairy flat Flip thre is some plonkers in this part of the world but thats another story will let meanie tell that one:facepalm:
Time too head north and the traffic was'nt too bad, making good time as small groups do,there is a few bikes out and about and it was like that the entire weekend, may off had something to do with the weather but we made it too Oakliegh were we fuelled
222153222150
and sorted out our next track up the centre through Twin Bridges but first we had to find our way too Maungatapere without going into Whangarei,Which we did even if we over shot the turn off slightly but it was well worth the hunt for this 10k stretch of road and we hadn't even got too the mian objective which was twin bridges
Once at Maungatapere I saw a Harley pull out off a drive way heading in the same direction so Thought it may be a good idea too sit behind this guy being local and all:facepalm:but it was'nt really so we had too Pass him Gheez monnie how does it feel passing a hog on a VFR???now funny enough the P plate on this hog was WLHOG
 so after about 20 K's or so Yod finks its a good idea too pull me over saying thats there is fliud coming from the back wheel and That I am leaving trails inh the corners Conclusion is that I was digging up the road while powering through the corners :woohoo:
meanwhile WLHOG pass's us while we have stopped bugger lets pass him again :innocent: so off we went again and chase down WLHOG once again on our way too Kaikohe and on too the Mangamuk's:scooter: oh what a ride and as we came though Mangamuka Village we came across a couple of biker's pootling along (who were later discovered too be Maha & Mom) but as the Mangamuks were calling our names and despite the road works on them it was still a super ride refulled in Kaitia where Maha turned up too the Caltex too say Hi,so a quick Chat and them off too our 3rd card pick-up
222152
and them cheak out our digs for the night (only two things missing a green ZX9 and a mud hole)
we drop of our gear and deciede to go too Cape reinga stooping at the cafe at Waitiki landing for dinner which was much needed and the host was a hoot the place even came with a drive through window :woohoo: and then onto the cape

Day Three
The serch for breakfast
Well with a casual start too the day and hoping too get breaky in Houhora which we would if we wanted too wait another 45 minutes or so we decide too head too kaitaia for breaky when some mad as snow man and a honda machanic show up heading to the cape its was Ken who we did the lake ferry section of the ride,a quick chat and we are off in opposite directions...
after finishing breakfast we hit the road again and head too catch the Rawene, taking the back roads withs lots of uneven surface signs the ride was still great just at the right pace we pass a couple of other's from the yellow ribbon brigade who were heading too the same ferry, upon arrival it wasn't long before the ferry show up and we were boarding...first they loaded the bus and then the concours:rofl:we think that was for weight distribution...once the remaining vehicals were loaded we were off,we did have a camper van parked next too us and orders were placed for coffee, which we never got:blink:
222169222174
once on the other side its was off too the Opononi pub too catch up with some friends off ours
222170222171
After the opo it was time too head to Tane Mahuta that really big tree yod mentioned before
222172222173
once the tourist thing was done it was time too get busy and head south first stop Dargaville for fuel then onto Wellsford and SH16 the traffic wasn't bad and the roads were pretty good even the coppers we encontered were'n interested in us so no complaints from us,so south we headed and out through AKLD and too papakura kawakawa bay and on too Ngatea now that stretch of road was rather nice alot more bikes down here than we had seen all day as we got too Kawakawa bay we had to have a stop an Ice cream stop as meanie had told our host we would be there about 7 so we had plenty of time and an Ashhurst ride doesn't arrive early its just not herd off
after arriving and Chris and Lizz's in Ngatea we settled in and joked about how the concours could tow the sleep out away(actually there were alot of concours jokes all weekend)
Dinner was a BBQ so once again we were well feed and slept even better and bright in early too head south too catch up with cowboyz and sarge in Te Kuiti where we finally meet the velosianator
dogsnbikes
26th October 2010, 11:57
Day four
we leave heading to Te Kuiti sort of a straight line route as he had to meet Sarge and cowboyz there before heading to the Naki,so was a sense off excitement and sadness as we knew we had the awakino gorge and Mt Messenger too do but sadness as we all knew it was the end of an awesome fourdays away with alot laughter and shit being talked about,it was a trip that was satisfying enough to already be looking forward too the next one and yet tell ones bodies they had a decent ride......
We arrive in Te Kuiti too be meet by sarge and cowboyz, get soted and we are on our way we had fun through Awakino and raced too get in position too get evidence of the velosianator
the velosianator is unleashed
222177
Monnie leading the velosianator
222180
the rest of us talking shite
222178
As he passes its time too play catch-up and get too Mt Messenger it was about Mt Messenger when we seen a colourful car start pulling left then deciding too keep going too much traffic I guess or was he afriad of what we were being chased by "The velosianator"
Now it was time too have fun I was even kind enough too signal Sarge through after seeing what happened next  Maybe I shouldn't have some corners are sharper than others aye John
after getting too NP it was time for a slower pace there were alot more police on the road Than any other part of the country we had been through this weekend ...
After doing our cards and some lunch it was time too head home and for the others it was just another stop before they got home......we all had a super weekend and alot of fun we had no victims too the Law or murphy:woohoo:
there were tears of joy from all the pisstakes no-one was ammuned
the Narley Hog and final shot of the weekend
222179222181
Until next time folks Thanks too all those that provided beds and meals, and too those that rode some of the way with us....
we will be back velosianator or not

We'll be heading from Tauranga(ish) to Houhora on Saturday if you feel like a birthday run, when were you planning on doing the other two?
edit: that's next Saturday, not tomorrow!

Yep, planning a birthday run. Heading to Whakataneish via East Cape on Friday, Houhora and then perhaps down to the Bay of Islands on Saturday, then home on Sunday. Not booking any accommodation - will just see how far I feel like riding each day.
My total route over both weekends is about 3,200km (5 days) if I take in all my diversions...

Quite damp out there, looks like I'm doing Rahotu on my way back home.
The rain started at Sanson but it was the building wind that made me wuss out - really getting up a bit in the exposed places. Turned back at Turakina, enjoyed the wet ride back through Marton & Halcombe.

Fairly wet leaving Palmy and in and out of showers most of the way down. Plenty of fresh air to be had at Lake Ferry. Very nice ride back even with the odd little shower - managed to avoid the worst of it and very good run from Masterton to Pahiatua via Alfredton. The track was even dryish on the way back over.

Ah... the "safer speed zone". You had 80kph and 100kph figured out, knew the revs, how the bike felt... time for a new zone. Cops hit it like crazy when it was first put in. It can be an absolute crawl during busy weekends and the new piece apparently avoids a black spot... then they put the 90 in. Killed off the small town that was barely existing before as well (Mangatawhiri).

Should have been doing 2,600rpm, not 2,700...
Yeah, have been through there when it's busy and its not fun. Mangatawhiri is on the invoice so it must still exist.
