I have been speaking with Chris Lawrence (Racer 40) this arvo & he has asked me to post up the following.
He has avaliable to use at the Cemetary Circuit, an old CBR1000 powered short (front engined) sidecar.
This was going to be ridden by Nodrog off here, but of course he has a splendid & fully functioning ZX10 outfit of his own now.
Anyone wishing to use this outfit will need a full senior MNZ licence, with three or more stamps & will need to pay for entry & enter the event themselves.
The machine will be transported to the track, so if you are racing a solo there, it wont be a lot of extra effort to join the sidecar guys for the day.
The outfit is for sale for $3000, so if you really like it, you can take it home!!
P.M Chris or I if interested.
Cheers,
Steve.

Its of pretty industrial construction, & it would be fair to inform prospective punters at this point that you will be quite unlikely to win the event on it. But yeah, I guess good manners apply, probably a bit of cash, rather than actually take it home & fix it would be more apropriate if it gets broken.

it is the best modern short bike I have ever ridden.
Mr Lawrence has informed me that it now wears brand new F2 bodywork, so I suspect it will now look something like this

It should be pointed out that while this is the best modern sidecar that Nodrog has ridden, it is coincedentally also the only one he has ridden to date.
Chin up Gordy, your outfit will be better than this one & then this one will be the second best you have ever ridden.
The bottom pic of #4 is now the pink #28 bike that Tracey & Jo ride & is safely tucked away in my garage.

This outfit started life with an RG400 engine in it, so is already at the limits of its chassis.
This is the reason we now have log books, so the scrutineers can track the life of a chassis.
We currently have a Shelbourne out there that started life in the early '70's with an air cooled RD350 engine, now running a GSXR1000.
Try putting a GSXR100 engine in a standard 1973 RD350 road bike, same result.

Could you set it back up to run the rg400 and run it with the classics,
Yes, im sure it could have an RG installed back in it, but it would run F2. It would be better off with a Jap 600 in it if it was converted to F2.
Fortunately I have a couple of 2000 R6 sidecar converted engines avaliable for $600.
Classic must be non Jap, all components commercially avaliable prior to 1976.

Correct done by both an engineer and someone who knows how to ride a sidecar BTW, and checked regularly by someone with a fair bit of skills in that area.
I was referring to the theory of buying something old and simply chucking a late model donk in it without even thinking what else needs upgrading
Sidecar Bob mention the shelbourne that had a 1000cc engine in it when it originally had a 350cc two stroke, this first 1000cc engine put in this rig was done in the uk at I beleive the shelbourne factory, bit differnt to what i was talking of really.

Maybe were talking about two different outfits.
Apparently Shelbourne owners phoned the factory a year or so back for some advice or parts & when they told the guy at the factory what was in it now, he hung up the phone.
Recently I had reason to call Dave Molyneaux, 16 times IOM TT winner & the builder & of our pink bike that he won the '96 TT on.
The first question he asked was, "what engine does it run now" I said "same as it was built with". Only then, it seemed, was he happy to advise me on certain aspects of the bike.
I fully agree with you Spyda, many a great sidecar has been ruined with a repower.
Do you think Kevin Wendt's 1327 methanol injected GSX outfit was slower than it is now with a GSXR1100w engine in it?
I dont think so!!!

That was the best sidecar in NZ in '88.

We got seriously on the piss & other stuff, in a tiny upstairs room at the Royal Hotel. on the corner in Taihape afterwards.
There was about 15 of us stuffed into this room the size of a shoe box.

Simply because he doesn't want to see it barstardised like every other original sidecar that people put their heart and soul into was... you know a GSXR1000 put into it etc. It's taken a fair bit of stress over it's life and the reality is most of it's components are at the end of their days and who really wants to be on it when that day comes along as some parts can be checked others will just let go without warning.
Actually the reason It's been photographed is we were looking at getting it out for the 60th at the Cemetery Circuit for the legends parade, it appears however it's invite only and we don't seem to qualify for it despite 19 wins on the track and it being a Wanganui built machine!

Looks like it was an awsome machine, is it an all alloy frame? As Chris said i've brought the CBR1000 sidecar, looking forward to running it next year, hopefully we won't be too much of a mobile chicane on it. Rick and Henk brought my previous bucket sidecar from me and Henk still hasn't shouted from when he fell off it, mind you just before he fell off i think he was laughing that they had just passed me on my new one which had died.

Thats odd.
I raced sidecars for the first time '87 '88 season with Scrivy on the Dolph Built GPZ1100, & thats when I met Andy Kippen. '88 '89 I raced a GSXR1100g solo, & it was after that.
I think we had too much fun Spyda. Maybe were both right!!
Annie was swinging when it went over I think.
Maybe, like I said Gumboot GP ran for two years only, one was 1986 the other was either 85 or 87 I'd put my money on 1985. Annie was the swinger, broke her pelvis and I think ended up marrying the physio that sorted her out, definitely wasn't 1989 as that's the year I started swinging for Andy.

Picture Anan, Pig, and Goober having a wank race in a room on bunk beds. Riffraff still has nightmares I'm told.
One does not let sidecar racers in their home lightly!

Wow, my brain is really fucked up then. I left my van in Taihape travelled the next day to Dave Beresford's in Bulls for more punishment on the back of a mate's virtually brand new GB400. What year did they first come out?
Scrivy had just left to fly planes in Aussie by this stage, so was nowhere to be found racing for the next four years.
He was the only one of any of us that never smoked dope at that time, so we'll se which year he rekons it was.

Last I heard it will have another novice crew (not the new owner) on board for Wanganui. But that may have changed.
