Triumph is now replacing all older R/R units in or out of warranty. This is a service action and applies whether or not your bike is under warranty.
There are 4 Service Bulletins mandating replacement for R/R units for the following vins and models.
All Daytonas up to vin# 381274 includes a new wire/hose guide
Daytonas 381275 to 459504
All Street Triples up to vin# 354281 includes a new wire/hose guide
Street Triples VIN 354282 to 456776
So there is something new and it's not a goodwill it's an across the board replacement failed or not for all affected vins. I bought my Street Triple new in late 2009 and was rung up by my dealer last Friday to see if I still had it. Taking it to the Hamilton Motorcycle Centre this Friday for a retrofit. If you haven't been contacted, check your vin and ring your nearest dealer.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Geoff

Hi Alan! Yeah, have owned it for almost exactly 3 years and still love it to bits. After having owned my Blackbird for 8 years and loving that, I thought stepping down in capacity might be disappointing but far from it!

Good call Triumph. There is a number of 'other' bikes with know problems with the same part cooking it self on certain models.
Now if you also ask for factory update O1L0682 they will retro fit a new sump on the bike that starts weeping oil like a old school Triumph.

Bit of a mystery why manufacturers can't get solid state reg/recs right. The Honda Blackbirds from 1997 to 2002 were notorious for failing and most owners (including me!) chose to fit one from a Yamaha R1 until Honda got their act together post-2002. Unlike Triumph though, there was no free retrofit so kudos to Triumph for that :niceone:. I just hope sod's law doesn't rear its ugly head on Friday when I travel from Coromandel to Hamilton to get the replacement with it breaking down half way :( It's been fine in the 3 years I've owned it!

Honda mastered the reg/rec location on a bike. Placing it in the hottest area where air did not flow easily anywhere near it. The older VFR's are proof of this.
Yup. My older bike's RR shat itself. Dhamik.

That's so true!!! The Triple R/R is behind the engine but it's also partially exposed to water flung off the rear wheel. Mind you, by the same token; the R/R cooling fins can get clogged with road crap mixed with the water, sigh.... :weird:

Got my new R/R fitted yesterday, some photos here:-

As usual, the team at Hamilton motorcycle Centre were outstanding with their great customer service. Only one slight worry with the new R/R - with its new position, the electrical connectors are more exposed to spray from the rear wheel and I'm not sure how waterproof they are. Might make up a simple shield to keep direct spray off them, simply for peace of mind. Otherwise, all good
