How good can a week day get before 9am?
A little sleep in this morning, and a nice hot shower before leaving home, on a cold foggy Christchurch day.
With a slight fresh easterly rattling the roadside rubbish, a quick trip on the bike to the local service station to check my bikes tire pressures, sweet all good,.
The 7.30 morning traffic was building, as I threaded my way to Jyipco Rd LTSA..
With a touch of anxiety I waited for the LTSA license tester to arrive.
8am, and I was given a radio, ear plug, and set off for a 45min pootle around sockburn on my little 250 cruzer... here goes'
"Turn left at the next intersection, the voice sounded in my ear,
Go to the end of the street and do a u turn when you feel safe."
The puddles were shallow, . thank got there were no random dogs, and being wet, no children..a small blessing?
"turn right and observe any potential danger points"
O MG whats dangerous?? Every bloody thing, including the tester following.
"Go right at the round about and continue around the curve to the right"
What?? oh there, shit, indicate, brake, puddle, watch for oil, fuck pot hole, dang indicator, oops fire truck with sirens!!, give way, check mirrors, omg, bloody Fendalton Tractor!! Grr, I do exist buddie!!. Whew made it.
"Turn right at the light then 1st left"
Ow heck multiple lane road, check mirrors, indicate, over shoulder quick glance behind, cross lane, second cover shoulder check behind, into turning lane, brake, give way to crossing traffic, sheesh, so many trucks..
"turn right at the end of the road, and continue till you reach the bridge""
Cool 80kph zone , eh? road works? dang, check for speed signs, ...none, oh mmm
a selective 75kph, tentatively wondering if im OK, doing this passing fenced road works. Neat 65kph corner, slow down ? na just take a good smooth line,
"Please pull to the left and tell me what hazards you observed "
Well, road works, what can I say, workers, fences. single on road, oil , mud, close proximity on coming traffic, earth moving machinery.........etc etc etc.
""OK, do a u turn and return to Jipco road."
Already? oh all right, must have either got it right, or got it wrong.
"well sir, thats a pass with flying colors, well done. Good defensive riding, and nothing I could see you need improvement on. Here is you Provisional Motor Cycle License""
Woot Woot,
Clock in at work at 9am, a smile a mile wide, and yeah loosers label removed for my bike!
How much better can a wet, windy, Monday morning get?

Sounds pretty easy. I got drunk the other day and booked my restricted online. Booked it for a month away to give me time to get everything sorted. Wouldnt have gotten around to it other wise. Been on my learners for 2 years already...

easy, yes, I relate it to taking a female pillion passenger for a ride around town for her very first ride, with her father following in his SUV.
You do everything absolutely within the law, you want to take her out on that second date eh.

well, depends upon the LTSA Trev.
under the current system 6 mths,, because of my age
under the new system 12 mths. Because age makes no difference
will be asking this Friday when I renew my lifetime license, ( yeah that's when its due)
Because I started before the introduction of the new system, hopefully 6 mths

Are they changing the the length of time you have to be on your restricted for over 25s ?

I believe that to be true,
and also I think there is also a change to how long you can be on a learners license before it expires too.
But I am open to correction on that.
If it is right, and your on a learners, then don't procrastinate, sit your tests

Hmm, this is directly off the nzta website... http://www.nzta.govt.nz/licence/getting/motorcycles/motorcycle-licence.html

Stage 3: Getting a full licence
You must be at least 18 years of age before you can apply for your full licence. If you have completed an approved advanced driving skills course, this is reduced to 17˝.

If you are under 25 years of age, you can apply after you’ve held your restricted licence for:

at least 18 months; or
at least 12 months if you have completed an approved advanced driving skills course.
Note: you must have held your restricted licence for at least six months before completing this course

If you are 25 years of age or older, you can apply after you have held your restricted licence for:

at least six months, or
at least three months if you have completed an approved advanced driving skill course.

As far as I was aware that was still current. I heard something about the learners expiring awhile ago, wasnt aware of it coming into effect. Cant seem to find anything on NZTA. Anyone else know more ?

Yes Billy, both of them. will be keeping them for the long term, classics like them are getting harder to obtain.
Especially in the condition of the red one.
But are planning on getting a later model ride next year, so that the Yammys stay in good condition longer

Congratulations, Sir! Woot!!

LOL (e)
When I did my licence at age 15, the cop said, "Is that red bike in the carpark yours?"
"Yup."
"Well, meet me over there, and we'll go for a blat!".

15 minutes or so later I had my full licence.

Basic Handling test? Say, wha..??
Restricted? :blink::blink:
"You may ride only bikes 250cc or smaller." :nya: (Yeah, it was the law, but..... I even rode bikes before I had my learners (which consisted of a 50cent sticker in the licence, and an 'L' label affixed to the licence plate (if I was riding my own bike...), and freeee to ride on the big, bad road).

No wonder this thread was confusing me ... I have had a bike licence since before you were born! ... (no wonder everything hurts!)

You are really a surprise packet at times ... well done and congrats ... cheers, John.

Well I guess it's never too late now is it! :innocent:

Congrats Dave. If you are over 25 indeed it is 6months til you can go for your full, but if you do a defensive riding course it can be axed to just 3 months. Not really worth the pennies to do that in my humble opinion but is an option.
