Frick me. I lurched back on my chair & let out a grunt when he hit.
That was awesome & horrendous at the same time.

Reminds me of my first ever off about 32 years ago. CB125 toodling along a wide grassy area at Kakanui a few ks south of Oamaru. Looked up and there about 25 metres ahead was a wooden telephone pole. Plenty of time to either brake and stop short or swerve around it. Unfortunately I did both and with the damp grass, well I finished up on my back in the grass. Fortunately still short of the telephone pole. Still my worst actual bin.

Seen enough pain and suffering in my time , so not going to watch it, but have suffered from this affliction in the past, luckily for me I was able to wrench my eyes off the potential target and get them adjusted to where I wanted to go and WENT THERE! instead.
It does happen, ha I'm telling you guys.
Secret, OK method for not letting it happen, ride fast enough that you can.
Stop.
Avoid.
Go around.
Be going slow enough when all else has failed that the impact ain't going to denut you too badly.
Ride your own ride and enjoy yourself.

Bloody good shot! :eek5:
I'm with caseye, the moment I start looking at the scenery I tear my gaze to were I want to go & usually open the throttle. Not always fast enough, though.
Kauris are pricks of things to avoid when they jump out at ya.

Ah yep, that would have hurt...
Here's what I saw as well though; "I can twist the throttle to well beyond my ability already, so why do I need riding lessons?":facepalm:

Fucking aye! I used to have trouble with ruts, watch the ruts then get well out of shape for the corner ahead :sweatdrop Still, never managed to ride into a fucking pole on a more or less straight road

 A tight, steep & very twisty gravel road local to me has a ferkin behemoth of a Kauri straight ahead of the tip in point of a downhill, off camber, left hand corner. It's like a magnet, or maybe it's that big it has it's own gravity but it just pulls you towards it. I now find it easier to ride that corner with my eyes closed. You just can't not look at it.

LOL, that scary huh?
I'm sure you knew I was referring to a friend of mine, now residing in the Welly area, be surprised if she wasn't also on your friends list.
Fer farks sake man, open yer eyes and enjoy the view of that big ol Tane going past and behind ya.

Yer referral went straight over the top of my noggin. Not unusual for me. Waipoua forest is a scenic stroll compared to the Jurassic park road.
What your friend do? Might as well deserve the rebuke if you get one.
