I kind of know how you feel. I had mine shipped from the states and it is suppose to arrive in Aucky on Monday. Then has to go through customs and transported down to ChCh. I have been waiting 3 months bikeless but, it is good timing now. The weather is starting to be good riding weather. If you are anything like me, the wait is killing me.

nice, I have the 01, and a friend just bought a 99, in mint condition, 20k on the clock for a real bargain. fantastic bikes with power everywhere. Ive done everything on mine, commuted, trackdays, long distance touring lone as well as two up, weekend blasts, they do everything without complaining. Ill never sell mine.

one of the best IMHO. I loved mine but my neck was getting too old for that seating position so out she went. Great power delivery....enjoy

My favourite scheme that blue, only mods I'd do looks wise is a single seat unit and "iridium" screen.
Mega fap.

yeah money has gone on a lot of other things CF heel gaurds and rearsets and rear view camera and screen, and ohlins damper mounted with a customised bracket across the tank . . . Im getting there, Its a labour of love.

Nice.
I love the look of the thou sports bikes of the late 90s and early 2000s, looked much more muscly, and less like a 250 frame being raped by a transformer. Not that the newer bikes look bad at all, just the older bikes are a bit more... visceral.
Mines bikes in the shop for 3 weeks, thats causing pretty bad withdrawls. Going for years without wheels would drive me barmy.

yeah, I have a gsxr as well, K4, and the yam looks just as new, but way sexier. not many that equal the older R1s for the purdy factor.

Yup, been looking for a while & decided on this one. They did a 31 point check today & found it needs something to do with the battery charging system....common fault he says but have to get one in from Aus so may not pick it up till next week

IMO all the '06 onwards Jappas have been getting uglier and uglier.
Gen 1 ZX10R was the best looking of the 2000s in my book, Gen1 R1 is the prettiest faired japper in my head.

Question for those who have one of the same vintage.....premium or unleaded??? I was told could be best on premium but found the 900SS & the Fireblade both ran better on unleaded?? What do you reckon.

I think you mean premium or regular.
All general pump gas is unleaded.

Mine is slightly later being an 01 but carburetted as well.
It also has an ignition advancer and runs like shit on 91, I generally run it on 98 if available but runs fine on 95.
Suggest you use at least premium or above.

I agree with your comments on ugly from 06 onwards with one exception,
the 2006 LE R1. ohlins and marchesinis from the factory, I think its the prettiest production bike ever made, period.
I have one as my desktop background. Id love to ship one back from the states after i sell the gixxer
