It's fucked. Buy a Samsung. Is your rooter blocking incoming traffic?

Pretty much this ^

Check that your modem/router isn't restricting connections based on MAC addresses.

Maybe try assigning the device to the DMZ zone.

Have you tried restarting both your iPad and your router?

Don't think so. The browser is working fine and we have a PC and laptop functioning normally thru router.
Doubt whether the ipad is fucked as it is spankers. Just need to know how to get it to connect to facetime.

Easier said than done. The router will not accept the ipad iP as a valid IP address

Yes a few times.

Is your router set for channel 12, 13?

It is set for auto. I can set it manually for channel 12 or 13 but not both at the same time?

Set it manually but make it not 12 or 13 because Apple products only use 1-11. You can download a program to scan the area to see which bands the neighbours are using so you can set yours for the least cluttered channel. You might be getting interference from your neighbours. Even though there are 11 channels you can use, the reality is that there are only 3 'different' ones: 1, 6, 11... or that's how I understand it

Want to elaborate on this? Can you see the router handing out an address to the iPad?

Re the channel comment, I think they're recommending your wireless is NOT on 12 or 13. Often the more basic devices can only go up to channel 11.

I'd also suggest you fix your wireless on a channel. Do a scan of the area if you can and try pick a channel in some clear air.

don't know what that means re handing out an address. I am not very tech savvy! Will try the scan thing tho. Thanks guys!
Why is this info not made available by Fapple when they sell you their gear? Fuckers!

Because they want to sell you some of their overpriced crap instead.

Ok, basically, when the iPad connects to your wireless network there is a device that gives them an address unique to network to identify and connect it. Liken it to council giving out street addresses.

It is likely in a normal network it's your modem or wireless access point. If this is one device, it's likely that one. See if you can log in and look for DHCP server or DHCP clients...

Apple says their gear "just works". When it doesn't, you're pushing shit up hill to get it to work...

Ah, right I've had a few vehicles like that I'm feeling better already.

Problem is that when i change anything on my router I get loud protestations from the wife with her wifi laptop! Apparently I am sleeping in the spare room again tonight!

Right, if you change the details of the wireless, any device that "knows" it will be affected, and may need the details of it again (depending on what gets changed). Sometimes making a change and saving will also take the unit off line while it commits the changes.

So I gave up in the end. I had reset everything several times and all to no avail. So i went to someone elses place and it connected straightaway. When I came home it also connected straightaway. Go figure?
