Watching Knight and Day and they cut the funniest bit of the movie (the jump from the car into the side of the truck :killingme). Why? For the love of all that is transmitted through the air and unscrambled onto the goggle box why?

Saw the highlights (if you can call them that) and thought, it would be a good thing to not watch. Don't feel ripped off.

Yeah, know what you mean. Watched Serenity the other night only to find they had cut the crap out of the bit where River Tam slaughters all the Reavers single handedly. Was only watching it to see that slaughter again.
Also why it is still worth downloading your favourite programmes even if they are free to air in NZ within a couple of weeks of there home country release. It might not be much that is lost but sometimes it can make the story easier to follow.

if you think you're getting ripped off there try anime. If we got direct Jappa land translations of pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh, One Piece etc instead of pathetically watered down American versions the censorships here would probably have them classed as R16/R18 instead of the G/PG they sit at.
Here's a comparison of some Jappa original screenshots vs 4Kids (US piece of shit) version. Qualities not brilliant but you'll get the idea. Blood, violence, guns, cigars, even tattoos are censored in the US version & this doesn't include the piss poor voice over alterations. You'll find all these anime's much more dark, violent & all round better in their original jappa form

So it fits with their advertising schedule. NZ has more ads per hour on peasant TV than anywhere else in the world including Mrky.

I agree with this statement.
Plus you can watch Firefly over and over again. Its that good.
Speaking of gibbering Joss Whedon fandom, and DVD's: the highlight of the film festival for me was Whedon't THE CABIN IN THE WOODS. If you see it, grab it, you won't be disappointed.

Aye, Firefly was feckin brilliant, speshully JaneTown :killingme. I saw Serenity the other night and noticed the odd, ooo that was shorter, but have it on DVD and blu-ray... at least I think I still have it on DVD... if so there will be a copy for the takin :blip:
Ruckin adverts seem to be more common during things like The Big Bang Theory or Anger Management or Castle... pretty much anything I enjoy watchin.. bastards. If I wanted to buy their shit, I would... shame there isn't an ignore advert function (too lazy to move for 2 mins and I detest channel flicking)

I was told it wasn't cool to download Serenity from the net because it was privately funded after the big cat networks canned the Firefly series. This from the guy that was the source of most of my downloads at the time.

That was in reference to the list of shows posted. my fundamental issue with TV (apart from commercials) is that i want to watch it when I want to watch it, not when some shaved chimp decides he wants to show it to me. Hence I own a lot of DVD's of TV shows.
The other thing is something like EPISODES which I have beenfaithfully TIVO-ing (recommended). The shaved chimps have decided to screen s02e01 then stop. Strangely, they can get fucked.

Fox did somethin similar with Firefly in the states. Apparently they showed it all out of order. Fortunately a chap I know knows a chap that is friendly with the internetz gods and sorted me out the series in order... yeat another thing I'll need to gets on de bluray some day.

This thread is full of awesome.
Yes I had both....they all were awesome.
I was fortunate enough to have a photo of my misses with Ms Glau (or is that Mrs now). She is actually very friendly in real life and nothing like her schizo/phyco or her metal machine stage forms. Great actress........but you don't actually attribute to to great acting until you meet her and find out how different she is.

It was like sTAR TREK: they made the first episode (The Cage) and the network people said it was "too cerebral" so they made another which screened as the actual pilot. Its really interesting because the uniforms are quite different, the Enterprise bridge set is different, even Spock's makeup is different.
With FIREFLY the first episode should have been "Serenity" (not to be confused with the film SERENITY) which is the one with the war flashbacks and does the character setup and development. Then the bank robbery episode, then they were pretty much aired in finish order (pretty sure I am right on this but I dont have the DVD's or the books with me).
The thing that killed the film SERENITY at the box office was that it came out within a couple weeks of the appalling THE PHANTOM MENACE. That in itself is proof there is no god if you need any.

TV shows have never been better.
Broadcast TV has never been worse and will never improve. Its not about the content which is excellent, its about the shaved chimps that do programming, the mongoloids who watch only drek, and the fact that TV networks are about delivering audiences to advertisers, not about getting viewers.
I watch hardly any broadcast TV now. I do watch my fair share of telly though.

NZ on average has more commercials than the countries the shows are bought from.
I notice it often - especially for movies and shows I've seen overseas, downloaded, or seen on DVD.
They try to be a little tricky to make it seem seamless.. but as pointed out - people notice!

I comfort myself with the fact that I used to be... and now that the house is full of women the TV no longer belongs to me and the constant flickin drives me MAD. I wish they'd learn how to use the fuckin menu.

I've always enjoyed star trek but never really gone out of my way to watch to. Probably due to too many off shoots.
I'll have to look out the series... I know I've got it around here somewhere... although it may be time to splash some cash and get the good quality version.
I'd never heard of Serenity until it came out on DVD, which is a damn shame as I reckon it woulda been crackin on the big screen. Great great movie, one of my all time faves.
Anyhoo, I shall forget all ills for 90 minutes this evening as I'm awf to see Iron Sky tonight.

The wife and I watched Serenity the other night and thought it was awesome. On Monday I went looking for a box set of Firefly.
Last night I wasn't about to watch any damn movie with Tom Cruise in it , so we watched best of 1981 on MTV and got all nostalgic. Had to fire up Youtube and play some Men at Work at work today.

apparently the last two series of ENTERPRISE are the best. The first two were pretty bad I thought. My favourite spinoff is DS9: I liked the whole alpha/delta quadrant thing, then different alien cultures (as opposed to TOS where those cultures were locked in). I also particularly liked Major Kira. Oh yes.
How I hated VOYAGER. How I still hate it. I only really liked Kes and they killed her. Fucking Neelix can suck my balls. Tom Paris should have been captain.
TNG suffered a lot by comparison with TOS but whenever I see it now I usually enjoy the episode. I dont go out of my way to watch it though.
Not that I am a rabid fan or anything.
Live long, and prosper.
Oh, and for Steve:

Firefly is the best TV series ever made, by anyone, anywhere. And it was shitcanned by the geniuses at Fox networks after 11 eps had aired and 14 were shot. Its a "space western". The characters are wonderfully written, the cast gives it everything and are uniformly brilliant, the sets and effects are superb given the leaps in technology since then, and most importantly, the stories are real, and affecting. It ranges from very sad (Funeral) to very light and frothy (the one where Mal has to rescue Inara from the dastardly lord Atherton, and Kaylee gets the party dress) to full on action: (Serenity). You will recognise most of the cast from work they've done since, but particularly Christina Hendricks who is in MAD MEN (Joan Holloway). She is in two episodes of FIREFLY and rules. (as Mrs Reynolds particularly). Nathan Fillion who played Mal Reynolds is Richard Castle in CASTLE. He even got to wear the tight pants and brown coat in one episode which was cool.
SERENITY the film is the same cast in more of an action setting. The filme is excellent and you dont have to have seen FIREFLY to enjoy it, though it certainly helps. Totally recommended.
