Just been thinking about how cool it would be to do some riding overseas when I win Lotto (or have saved up to do so in a few years time). For those who have done it where would you recommend going (regale us with your stories please). I quite fancy the idea of getting an adventure bike and rarking it round South America - have always wanted to go to Peru and figure it would be so much more fun doing it on a bike. But I also like the idea of doing some decent road riding somewhere with lots of beautiful scenery.

Agreed - and I have contacts in Texas if you ever wanted to head that way too - just yell.

It would involve Harley's though - most likely...

edit - should have said - out the back of Houston toward Austin is very nice scenery... and it's hard to beat a couple (or 6) hours floating down the Guadalupe River on tire tubes (toobin'), with a couple of friends, nothing to do but drink and swim... swim and drink...

... ask me how I know :Punk:

Well when I'm rich and famous, I'm gonna spend six months riding all over the States. On a chopper. Zed's dead baby, Zed's dead.

I have this argument with the RAT guys.

They say lets do an OS Tour - i say cultural and horizon broadening issues aside you won't get a better alignment of conditions than in your own backyard.

The South Island of New Zealand in the summer time has it all, scenery, accommodation, health, medical, activities etc etc etc, the people, the roads, the roads and the roads.

People COME here from all over the world because it's reputed to be the best touring on the planet. from what I've seen they are right.

And all you guys want to do is piss off!

OK I gotta confess that I haven't toured the SI yet, but my plan is to do it in February/March 2006. But there are lots of places in the world that I still want to see and I figure it would be fun to do it on a bike.

Yep - horizon broadening and the OE thing is good too. It makes you realise just how good we do have it here.

I'm with Big Dave on this one, we spend our holidays riding round the Sth Island for 2-3 weeks. Absolutely wonderful.

I'm sure there's some great places to ride overseas, but I won't venture there till I get sick of the South Island. Probably around 2045......

I'd love to go overseas on a real adventure, but figure SI will come first. Spent last night watchin a couple of dvd's on travelling around the world by bike & it made me want to hit the Coro, head north, go to the SI and generally go around NZ by bike (doing an NZ adventures tour for the SI).

Then again, just around dorkland are some fantastic sights if you hit the back roads (more gravel would be good).
