2nd September 2012, 22:14
The following has been requested to be posted by nzspokes, boyfriend of Sharon, and meets with KB site rules. Please remember to adhere to the protocol for accident threads, keeping speculation and discussion around circumstances out of the thread.
On Saturday just gone Sharon Kitching (Sharry (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php/14224-Sharry)), my wonderful girlfriend was involved in an accident on her motorcycle. She is currently in Auckland Hospital Critical Care. She has multiple injuries and is facing a long term in Hospital. But she is talking and her normal lovely self.
Any information on when, where, how this occurred is to be kept private until further notice.
Please contact me via PM for further information, it may be a while before she can have visitors. Currently it is Family and close friends.
I have more texts than I can cope with at this time but will endeavor to get though them as time allows.

The differences between people should never intrude nor disrupt enough to weaken the strong
Once were friends Sharon, whatever the past, to be honest, it should stay there.
Personal judgements, from time to time, cloud the adult response, which is….to let them go.
When someone you have known, is in grave condition, the only sincere thing to do is to offer them comfort.
Words, can at times, offer such comfort.
All the best and a speedy recovery.
Mark and Anne.

I popped in to see Sharon with my fiance in tow. Man, I couldn't get over how she was responding! I was gobsmacked to be having as pleasant a conversation with her as I would normally do! She had all sorts of metal bling wired into her and I think the most excellent droogs were taking her to happy la la land (mmm morphine!)
nzspokes was there and if it wasn't for the fact that Sharry had been in a fight with physics and the road, it was almost normal!
Dropped off a little Repsol 'blade as inspiration for her next bike and the obligatory pot o'flowers, good to see she was in good hands and with such a positive attitude.
So g'wan peeps, get in there and give her your love, humour and support!

With all you have to juggle you'd better focus more on looking after yourself. No need to apologise to anyone - you have a lot to cope with right now so only do what is manageable. As it sounds like Sharry is up for visitors now I'm sure plenty of kb'ers will take up the call to update the rest of us here.
Take care and put your energy into what's most important in your life!

Rob, no need to apologise, you're handling a tough situation and making sure Sharon only gets the best from you. Now you need to sort yourself out a bit and get some of that sleep back. Got a ways to go!
The great thing is that Sharry has plenty of people that will support her and keep her from going bonkers confined in hospital!

7th September 2012, 15:13
GSXRTrace and I popped in to the hospital to see Sharry last night just after 7.
We spied the Repsol Fireblade scale model that Gijoe1313 had delivered and the conversation inevitably turned to the usual Hornet Swarm jokes about 2 dirty gixer riders being allowed amongst polite society and how did we get past hospital security. We travel in packs dontcha know!
We talked about all sorts of stuff, and I also passed on a get well soon message from my kids who remembered that Sharry was the nice lady who'd given them an awesome bubble blower a couple of years back.
Sharry seemed to be in good spirits despite her injuries and said she was amazed at all the support she's been getting from KBers :)

Had a good natter about everything and here's hoping she gets to stay there, in familiar and friendly surroundings so to speak! Rob, the everpresent guardian angel and source of sanity for her was being the good man he was.
Much nicerer there, even had some homemade jams and preserves for sale (bought a bottle of the plum jar on the way out).

Saw Sharry yesterday with my girl, TOTO was present also (popped into 'Treads and he was just finishing up work) She was in good spirits and doing some more rehab/physio stuff, so that was a positive.
They've been bouncing her around the DHBs and shuffling her from room to room, definitely not the best state of affairs. Still, she was enjoying the hand fed Skoff chips by TOTO, the water feed from my girl and my kibbitizing about everything and nothing.
She is now online with her mobile and catching up with the world!

Fantastic to see you posting, though. You must be being a bit gentle on the keyboard with both wrists broken. That would be so frustrating! I hope they are really looking after you well in there. I found the nurses fabulous, but I still nearly died through a bad mistake.

Make the most of that time in hospital Sharry, learn what you can and can't do and if you can't,Don't.
Yep,after breaking myself in May I'm just coming right and I'm sure I've pushed things a bit too hard at times and it's actually made things take longer to get better.
Know what it's like to feel things are improving only to have to slow down again while other bits catch up.
Good to see YOU on here not poor ol Spokesy for a change.
Take care, rest up well and hope to see you out and about one day, when you're ready.

Well to be fair Katman represents one end of the spectrum and I'd suggest because of your personal involvement in this case you represent the other end. In that case there is bound to be some friction...
Considering the broad spectrum of people that ride bikes and their wildly different world views its in the nature of the beast that this happens. Hardly requires banning here any more than you can 'ban' people in real life.

Contrary to the belief that some people on here seem to hold, the fact is that I get no pleasure at all from hearing about people's motorcycle crashes.
What I get pleasure from is hearing others saying "But hang on, instead of paying attention to *such and such* would you not have been better to pay more attention to *some other such and such*"
Because, quite frankly, open discussion and learning from others accidents is the only way forward for motorcycling.

This is what is wrong with biker down threads that try to discuss what happened, they get nasty and opinionated where posters selectively discuss what they think pass for facts and sometimes just digs. Unless the biker themselves starts such a discussion it is not for a bunch of opinionated dickheads to do it for them. :shit: last week I had a little scare and it took three to four days riding the same route and studying it to work out the circumstances that put it all together and that with full recollection not affected by trauma and even then I can't say for certain only that it makes the most sense to me.
I don't know the lady or anyone concerned but wish anyone recovering well and take an interest. All the best Sharry and NZSpokes.

I would like to say, that despite some interest in obtaining learning from my accident,, I have no memory of that part of my journey.
Memory loss was not from a head injury it was, in my eyes, a consequence of having my precious bits slammed against the petrol tank at 80 to 100 kph and obtainig two bilateral fractures of my pelvic bones

actually I agree with the sentiment that its a bit unrealistic to post up and have a large thread about a motorcycle accident related injury, and expect others to not wonder/want to know what happened. Things can be learned from others mishaps. Im sure that Sharry wishes it didnt happen, and most people would, if given the chance, impart experience and knowledge that might just increase someone elses chances of avoiding a similar fate.
If people got banned on KB for being a cock the place would be completely empty.

Ok, it seems perfectly clear to me what this thread is for. We all know the site rules, and in this instance they are being enforced with complete rigidity, as they should be. This is not the place to speculate or any other damn thing. This is a thread for people to be updated on Sharry's progress, and to wish her well. I have just read Sharry's post of having no recollection of what actually happened, and that the serious crash investigators are doing what they are expert at, discovering the cause of the crash. That should be the end of matters for now. She is obviously facing down a big journey to regain her health, and that is what is the most important thing at the moment.
However, human nature dicates we are a curious bunch and frankly I am surprised it has taken so long for the "what happened" questions to start. I guess that is out of respect for the people most affected by this situation. Hopefully in the fullness of time there will be a bit of a discussion about the hows and whys and what can we all learn from it thread started, as I know that this woman is no real risk taker, and frankly I would like to know what happened so it does not happen to me.
In the mean time, lets leave this thread for its intended purpose.

Belly button fluff actually is a very interesting phenomenon.
Belly Button fluff is in fact passed through from lost socks. The socks pass through a wormhole allowing inter-universe travel. Through their travel, they are exposed to high levels of radiation which disperses the socks into lint after passing through the wormhole.
The socks do not return to its universe in its origination but to a parallel universe – the belly button.

.
This is true....the bummer is that as human beings we remove the fluff prior to the circle being completed. If we left it there, our internal organs would gather it together, realign the molecules and start the knitting process. An average male should be able to shit out a sock every two days

Small update. This morning The kids and I walked all the way around the ward with Sharon. Shes coming right so quickly now. She will be on her way home soon. I will be stopping updates when that happens as she will be able to do it herself. She still has a long way to go but shes well on the way.

Fabulous news! It's good to hear that she's progressing fast, but as others have said - don't overdo it. Great to hear she's walking already.

Latest and last update.
Sharon is coming home tomorrow.
As long as she can prove to the Occupational therapist that she can cope at home shes staying.
She can move about with the aid of walkers etc. Will be a long road ahead but this is a huge step.
From now on she can speak for herself.

Considering the injurys to your hands Sharon, I guess its safe to say that it will be a while until you make cheesecake?
Sadly you are correct Mark, with an external fixater on one hand and and wrist brace on the other with not being allowed to use them to weight bare cheesecakes are on hold for a wee while.
I came home today and passed the physio and occupational therapist tests so am now officially discharged :wari::wari:
Rob has done well, I recognised my house it was my cat that didn't recognise me :)

Great to hear the good news. Always bad to hear when a biker goes down and is seriously injured in the process but it's good to hear when the recovery is well underway. From experience I can attest to the frustrations and trials that recovery tests us with but I see you are a fighter and are not willing to let it knock you back. Keep the chin up and congratulate yourself with each step of progress

Superb news to hear that you are back home Sharry. Good to see the healing and recovery process is well underway.
Belly button fluff actually is a very interesting phenomenon...
Ahh... but why is it always blue?

Ahh... but why is it always blue?
Belly button fluff is mostly found in amply proportioned men, and most generate a grayish blue colour - apparently caused by the variety of colours they wear.
Others say it is caused by stubborn semen gone mouldy.

Shorts rides only! It's not that comfortable for longer than 15 mins, especially in her condition...
