So wtf am I wibbling on about in the buckets section? When you have kids you start to think about this boring (and sobering) sort of stuff.
just looking to change insurers. Current one has an exemption on racing. New one has same deal, or actually they will load the premium up to a crazy level despite the fact I've stated 100c bikes & no more than say 130kph & this is like 2 hrs a month. Had to negotiate an exemption.
Fuck its not like I'm playing rugby or base jumping or some crazy shit?
Who else has had this problem? Are we all just not covered? or do people just not mention it & hope that they wouldn't weasel out of paying (which they would quicker than a quick thing that sez 'non disclosure' on it).

Totally unreasonable (and unlike most on KB, I actually know of what I speak - I used to work for AXA). Get ye to a broker.

Yea it is shit, mine I have specific exlusions listed on my policy for motorcyle and water ski racing.
It has been a while since I have read through it, but when I signed up I thought it was wierd because there didnt seem to be anything stopping my going out and taking up somthing else (say base jumping for an extreme case) and ther was no requirment for me to tell them and I would be covered in the event of an accident.
It has never made sense though that I can go out and jump on the 1000cc Speed Triple, go for an entuastic ride on a public road, and be covered, but taking my 150cc to a controlled environment with out other peolpe (for the most part) trying to kill me and not be.
Insurance is the biggest fuck off in my life, but if you didnt have it............

IS a broker & she was saying she didn't think it would be an issue but had to come back with her tail between her legs & give us the option. Said she'd checked with a few others & its driven by the re-insurers.

I had the same problem, explained all the types of racing, and not covered for any racing though like Pumba said I am if I go for a ride on the roads...go figure. It was more like take it or leave it.

Do MNZ still offer insurance ? The deal used to be, accept your own company's exemptions and take out MNZ's insurance for racing...
The speedway guys used to use an outfit called American Combined Insurance. i understand they're still around but under a different name.
If they'd insure speedway sidecar guys, bucket racers should be easy....

I have a loading with AMP that says I can't go climbing or mountaineering or outdoor rockclimbing but can go to an indoor artificial wall. They didnt care about riding motorbikes on the road or whitewater kayaking or mountainbiking, all of which (in terms of time exposed to risk) are a far greater hazard.
They're fuckers.

We have our life insurance with Sovereign. Initially they were going to charge us $300 premium because I race and wouldn't exempt it. It took a month for them to put in the exemption and remove the premium (after I made the argument about the gear I wear, the top speed I could go at and the lack of deaths in bucket racing) but still charged me triple because I rode bikes as part of my job. After two years they reviewed it and tried to charge me the premium again. Only took 2 weeks for them change back but still charge me double as I saw a councilor 25 years ago as a troubled teen.
Now we are stuck with them due to me being diagnosed with cancer and not being able to be insured by anyone else. I'm bot looking forward to the next review. If anyone knows of any other companies willing to look at insuring us please PM me.

I think the unspoken rule is if you die on the track we just lug the body down the road a bit and run you over a couple of times with a car. Maybe chuck a push bike in there somewhere with helmet of course. Sorted.
I'm not covered so please adhere to above if needed. Just keep my pretty face in tacked.

Good to know they're still around - my speedway sidecar customers all carried loss of income insurance to supplement ACC - and most of the injuries I heard about went private too rather than public Hospitals.

Be sure you have read ALL the fine print, including the letter that came with your insurance policy. There with out a doubt will be something that says, "failure to disclose... will result in the avoidance of this policy" or words to that effect. They will avoid covering you for almost nothing. Competitive events of a motorsport nature, regardless of capacity, will be enough to void your insurance. Been that way since adam was a small boy.

its bloody handy to have to be honest! helps to top up the 80% of ya wages while on acc and also the lump sum payments a super handy, I like the $400 per day while in hospital (overnight) and then another $400 a day for 2 days of "recovery" so for my last biff I spent 2 days (nights) in hospital and then got given 4 days of recovery on top giving me a very handy $1600 for laying about and poping drugs! plus the time off work as well and lump sum payment for a "major bone break".
and the best part is it covers you for everything other then suicide! so why not have it as a saftey net

As far as Death Cover goes you get $10,000 payout if you have an MNZ licence and are at an MNZ event. Just one of the things covered by the licence.
I got cover for no extra cost on an Income Insurance Policy while bucket racing but never tried Death Cover.

be aware of medical insurance. i used to work for a personal injury / income protection insurer. 40% of the premium went to the salesman direct, of which i was one. i hated the work. the policy they used to have stated that they would pay out for lost wages etc, medicl treatment etc if you were hospitalised for 30 days or more. Who goes into hospital for 30 days? (29 days in hospital = no pay out) Not often. Mind you, that was 15 years ago. Maybe its different now. Read your policy fine print.
seeing the slutchy middle managers in the company pounce on the unsuspecting public and sell em shit they didnt need or would ever be able to claim on, made me sick.... i quit.
