Pete, my strategy is to check price & availablility with the shop first. If the price is too high I ask if they will price match. They are usually happy to do so to retain business. I've usually checked the Cycletreads site for their prices as well, & I've also looked at alternative options to see if I'm paying too much...

How do you find the Shinko 705's on the XT? When hubby had his XT he tried one on the rear and the whole bike wobbled through the rear. Went back and it was swapped for another one which did the same. Ended up with a set of Maxxis which were fine so it was definately an issue with the Shinkos.

I ordered some front brake pads for the 800 on Tuesday, thinking they'll be here Wednesday for me to put in so I can make sure all is good on Thursday before going for a ride on Friday (clever aye?)
Thursday night and my brake pads are in Timaru !!! WTF ? after being sent from Hamilton  I knew at lunch time they wouldn't be here so rang the BMW dealer in a major South Island city to see if they had any, "Errrrr....No" they said but we can getem ex Germany in about 14/15 days :gob: and they'll be $181+gst per side :gob: :gob: and :shit: FFS they're a consumable item like oil filters/air filters and tyres. Why is there no stock ?
FWIW after market ones are about $45 per side:blink:
I could've rung the local KTM dealer as the 01=06 950's use the same pads, aswell as a few other makes including some Hondas

Still mostly broken, put it this way they haven't done anything to it yet. Finally get to see the head man at the hospital in a couple of weeks, but I had to start ratling my cage down there on Tuesday. The break looks like a Z. Ribs are alot better and the bruising is nearly all gone. I will wait and see what happens before I post photo's. Been back at work for 3 weeks now. Going OK. Bike Regos are on hold for 6 months so the tin top is it. Ride safe everyone and thanks for asking.

To be fair to KTM, their pads are pricey but possibly the best value because they last a lot longer. The 640 rears lasted 40,000 km and I haven't worn out the fronts yet after 50,000km. The after-market pads in the 200 don't last very long, in fact the rears lost 70-80% of the material in one wet muddy 3 hour cross-country race in the 640 (I love having multiple bikes sharing common parts!!) and ended up nearly metal-to-metal. Yep, bought a set of expensive OEM pads for each bike after that episode. I'm not talking about cheap shitty pads either, but SBS sintered. OEM pads are made by Toshiba or Brembo.
$180/pair was about what I was quoted locally a couple of years ago.

That looks good, I've been thinking of getting in some D606 rears for a while as they don't sell the 130/18 in NZ, looks like they'd land a couple here for around NZ$120ea which is cheaper than cheap for that size.

No actually I just fed in all my address details & went to the checkout with 2x 130/18 D606 @ US84ea. Despite what it sez elsewhere on the site shipping came up as US$30 total. I'll probably send them an email to check that is the real deal before I actually pull trigger. Anything under NZ$180 is a good deal for this type of tyre I reckon, so even if shipping was US$50/tyre it would still be worth the exercise.

Got a reply, both the tyre & the shipping prices were wrong  They have now updated their system.
130/18 D606 is actually US$99, shipping is actually US$70. Which makes getting one fairly pricey. But shipping on 2 is US$110 so getting a couple works out to just under NZ$190ea which isn't too bad & keeps it under the $400 GST limit. Pretty sure Rosie paid more than $190 for the 120/18 D606she got for her WR a while back.
