Well it was off to Ruapuna for Rd1 of the KOR series. Bailie had ironed out a few issues at a recent HAGD and was keen to put theory into practice.
Qualifying saw him immeadiately lapping quicker than previously even to the naked eye. This was
soon backed up when the times were posted. He was in 4th overall (1st 250 proddie) in a field of 40, and sharing the front row with his DAD - Cameron Hudson / Blake Henwood-Sparks. Awesome ...he was rapt.
Race 1
An awful start (bogging) saw the field get a sizable gap into T1. But he fought back and slowly picked off many scalps. He managed to gap the main bunch but couldnt quite manage to catch the bunch of 4 infront who were fighting for places 2-5. AND WHAT A FIGHT... some of the most intense and scary racing i have seen in a long time. The battle between Damian Perriton & Larry Ross was EPIC.. both the Hoogie brothers were also there and kept sticking in a nose. But the two elder statesmen were banging paint and taking to the grass at almost every turn. Event he run to the finish line was ACTION packed. So Bailie got 6th overall and 1st in 250 proddie.
race 2
With some coaching on starting issued it was time to try again............. opposite this time... HUGE wheelie off the line. Got composed and started to gain on the same pack of 4 again a little earlier in the race and was within spitting distance at the finish. So another 6th overall and 1st in 250 proddie. Blake Henwood - Sparks was on a flyer and set a new streetstock lap record of 1.52:3.... well done.
Race 3
This time it was a perfect comination of revs & clutch and he got a holeshot start to lead all the way to the hairpin.. where Blake out braked him to take the lead...only to have the bike seize at next corner (well they say 2 smokes always go good just before they blow) Bailie was caught by the very quick pack of 4 and held his own for a couple of laps but had to settle for 5th overall and another 1st 250 proddie.
An awesome day for the team. Father & Son on the front row on Fathers day - proving he can mix it with the best - 3 wins. Our principal sponsor was there to watch an was very impressed with Bailies performance.
I couldnt be happier.... the lad is going from strength to strength and is a pleasure to work with. One weeks break and we have 2 meetings back to back.
Then i Oct we are heading to Taupo for the VMCC meeting.
