aprilia - always spelt with a small a

I have had this bike for a few months.
Replaced the timing belt, plus I have a spare for it as well.
The bike is in great condition for its age, it has a nice sounding engine and it purrs. No rattles or knocks and is very reliable.
The bike has a Rotax engine, it comes with a manual and lots of information for parts etc if required.
I have installed a genuine aprilia bash plate and headlight protector for the bike, these were sourced form the UK. I have a good contact there should the need arise for parts.
Unfortunately due to financial obligations I am getting out of riding for the meantime.
Registration is on hold and the warrant will require renewal. This can be negotiated.
Feel free to contact Mark 0n 0272672340 or 078844463.
This will also qualify as a LAMS bike from October this year - a simple matter of filling in application form and submitting evidence of power, cc, etc.

This shouldn't last long.

I want, but don't want to liquidate any of the others.

Don't forget to add LAMS bike right here! Hmm, on that thought are you asking enough for it?

Thanks, hopefully it will sell fast. :)
A bit of background information on the bike from the last owner.

From the last owner - When I got the bike it was de-registered and sitting in the back of a chaps shed in Onehunga, I believe he had purchased the bike new in the UK in 1989 and had ridden partway through Europe before freighting the bike to NZ when he came out here for his new job, he firstly used it for touring the country and then for commuting to and from his job.I found it all complete but looking a bit sad, the ignition switch was broken and there was a bit of surface rust on the frame and a lot of dust and grime. I am an Automotive Engineer and bikes are a bit of a passion so I set about tidying it up for daily use, the bike has been stripped back to bare frame, the entire frame has been sand blasted and repainted in two pack, any bearings or bushings that needed replacing have been replaced, the engine was given a good check over with a bore scope, (little Camera) and is all good, it has heaps of compression and starts easily without blowing smoke, it has been re vin’d and re-registered properly.I have owned the bike for a little over two years and it has been very reliable on the whole with the exception of a couple of things, I have replaced the battery with a new one, I have had the starter rebuilt and I have had the side covers off the engine to check the clutch and replace the sprag bearing for the starter idler.Oil changes can be done by the owner, the filter is a standard type available from any bike shop, I run the engine on a Castrol 10w30 semi synthetic oil, brake pads are of a generic type and are readily available, the brake rotors are in good condition and should serve the bike for many years yet. Front wheel is 21inch, the rear is 17 inch. I fitted a new chain when I first restored the bike to road worthy, it does have a cush hub which is in really good order, Cruise speed on the open road is 100 to 120kph, the speedo is not all that accurate and starts to bounce around a bit at about 80-90kph, I tend to use my GPS to track speed and 100k is a comfortable cruise with the gearing it has, I have not measured but I imagine 300k on a tank would be about right. There is a kick starter which is very effective, it also has a decompression system for kick starting, the kick lever is n the left side of the bike (it’s a European thing I think)The electric’s all appear to be in good working order and have not given me any trouble, the charging system works, the lights all work, although the fuel gauge plays up most of the time, I think the sender is faulting but I tend to unscrew the cap and look at the level rather than rely on the gauge anyway so it has never concerned me.Over all the bike is tidy, I wanted to be able to use it regularly and so I keep it well maintained.

The only issue I had was on the first day of riding it, the belt broke. I had one sourced from the UK and bought two. I have a good connection with spare parts on E-Bay, very reasonably priced, he sources brand new aprilia parts from all over the EU. The Rotax engine is very reliable and that was proven when the bely snapped, no valve collision what so-ever. The design of the engines allows for the failure of the belt. It was a 15 minute job fitting it.

Wish I had the coin Dean, it would be staying in the stable mate....At present, both bikes are under Tarps, start them up once a week and bring them out into the light:) I drool and think what a great day for a ride, but.......
If they do not sell, then at least I got a couple of beauties.....to ride later on this year..;)

Took the bike out for a ride this morning and she performed brilliantly!
Brand new battery installed, filled the tank and away we went.
The whole time I was riding, I was thinking that the aprilia Tuareg 600 would be ideal for someone wanting to get into adventure riding
at a more sedate pace.
Because of the age, the bike is not something that you would want to motocross, jump etc.
It will certainly make it up 90 mile beach and Te Paki stream, it will certainly make it up Muriwai and the dunes...
Just don't drop it and mess up those plastics....They will be more and more increasingly difficult to replace....:shit:

Happy to be offered anything around the $2800 region, then we can haggle...:)

The Tuareg is for sale.
I have put the reg on hold but it finishes 20/06/13.
A WoF can be obtained prior to sale, it will pass no issues there. I will also put some reg on the bike if required for the new owner.
It has been ridden up and down the road, around the block to keep it purring.

The price I am looking for is $3000 ono.
Please PM me if interested. I will be listing this on Trade Me as soon as time permits.

Thanks.

Has it really been on sale for a year now? Just peeped at the thread for the first time.
In the world of antiques, houses, boats, and apparently Rotax Aprilla Tuareg 600 Winds, a thing is only worth what someone is willing to pay.
$1 reserve on Tardme looking like the way to go eh? Best of luck.

I started the bike and took it for a ride, what a beauty! :)
Anyway, there is a knack to warm it up, full choke, then leave it running, then wait for the change in the engine - it races, back off the choke and let here purr.....
And it does, very quiet.
BUT, funny thing is everytime I put her into first gear from standstill after a time laying idle, she lurches and stalls. Weird.
Then I start her up, put her in gear again and all is fine. What could that be guys?
The clutch is sweet and she changes smoothly when riding and idling after warming up....It even did it when I picked the bike up from the PO.

Not a biggie but she is old afterall...

Before you shift, work the clutch in and out a few times at the point it engages. Cold/old oil = sticky plates that don't want to seperate.

I have earned my living in the past working on bikes such as this

If I ever buy a diesel, it will be a Rotax, they make excellent engines(,even the diesels)

Don't suppose I can shoehorn a 2T tandem twin in there...........

Of course. I would say that if you'd buy it :)
Rotax = extremely reliable...I am very surprised...
Why did KTM consider them? After all they were just down the road...:)

It is going to be sold!!

Best offer over $1700 for the rest of the week, and it ends this Sunday, can and will own it!
Seriously.....
It has a few foibles, but it runs well and with a service, adjustment here and there, you got yourself a great LAMS bike (yet to be approved, just got to be added to the list with the application)
Comes with new Motobatt battery, spare belt for the motor, new belt added recently! :)
Brand new belly pan/bash plate sourced from Italy aprilia.
All electrics work except the fuel gauge, never bothered me.
Fork seals require doing, new seals included in sale, just never had time to send it in to the shop...
It does need an oil change soon, that's about it.....

Registration on hold, needs a warrant of fitness.
