whoever was at the spanner night on thursday, I was the guy who piped up 'ive got a sqeaky drum brake'
their response was. take it off and clean all the dust out, this means taking the wheel off. something a wee bit daunting for a young lad such as myself.

well ok. I woke up at 1pm with a splitting headache and thought Id get started early.
I grabbed my tools and stuff and went outside, I pulled out my trusty adjustable spanner and went to work on the exhaust first to get it out of the way and too clean a bit more of the rust off it.

1 munted bolt later I got frustrated and thought id give the front brakes a go, warm up and all that, fark me that didnt work either! So I went over to Kerry at MotoHaus and went. ''keeerrrryyyy I cant get my bolts offff boohooohoo' he gave me a quick slap upside the head and told me to go get a good socket set. I have no monies so I borrowed one from my brother.

its about 5 now so a wee bit late but really wanted to give it ago.
I managed to actually get my back wheel off no probs (not many anyway) and I was quite pleased. I figured out how disk brakes work and cleaned them out, also gave the pads and inside of the wheel a bit of a sand to give it a bit more roughness and cleaned them out again. I also treated my rear sprocket to a meths bath to shiny it up nice.

I found out that my chain seems to be running along some plastic in some places* which was a bit of a concern but it was too dark to get the engine plate off to see why, I guess colemans gave me a too small sprocket or something bent in there.

anyway I got it all back together in the dark unfortuantly and fitted my rear brake up nice and all that. surprisingly everything worked ok, I now have confidence to do it again and better next time.

if you didnt know how a drum brake works like me. you can see the clip and understand that its expanding the inner ring pushing against the our ring on the inside of the wheel.

Just a quick few words of advice. Double and triple check everything is correctly secured and adjusted.

good on ya for having a go mate. It's not always the easiest thing to start pulling things off when you aren't too sure, so good on ya. Just remember that most of the things on most bikes are real simple stuff, often over talked-up. Just be careful putting things back together, making sure you don't have any bolts or clips or springs left over! and just make sure it's all done up tight too!

What the boys said above. Save some money and get some tools. 90% of the job is tools. 10% is reading and or experience. Check and recheck after reassembly. :yes:

I gave it a quick check over and took it out for a test today. works a treat.
still running a bit doggedly but Ill need to get further into it (like the engine) to have a look at that.

It felt like it was slipping out on some corners but only slightly, might have been a small patch of oil or something. it was wet out this arvo.

BTW What the hell kind of existence do you have that you sleep in to 1 in the afternoon? Did you just get to bed at 8 in the morning or something and decided to have a sleep-in????

When I entered this thread I had hoped it would be about fixing squeaky header pipes. Since I had my loudmouth installed -as a late birthday prez, me header pipes have been squeakn like crazy. Though Ive been told that there really is no way to fix it properly.

The squeakn sort of defeats the manlyness of the loudmouth. :no:

Oh and my brakes squeak too, but thats only when they get wet.

When I entered this thread I had hoped it would be about fixing squeaky header pipes. Since I had my loudmouth installed -as a late birthday prez, me header pipes have been squeakn like crazy. Though Ive been told that there really is no way to fix it properly.

The squeakn sort of defeats the manlyness of the loudmouth. :no:

Does it squeak as a result of exhaust leaking or is it because of rubbing (due to movement/expansion-contraction)?

If it's rubbing then tighten brackets/fittings, if it is expansion-contraction thing (and rubbing in some cases) a smear of 'Copper-Cote' (a high-temp anti-sieze grease) in the right areas will do the trick.

I was hungover like crazy
I didnt wake until 1, but I ussually dont know what the time is until I get out of bed and put glasses on. like this morning felt like 7:45 but was 8:30 unfortuantly quite late for me

Well, there you go (and wherever you go, there you are. Small small world, innit?) This is probably the cause of the squeaking, because the headers shouldn't leak there - there should be a 'thing' (shim, flange, old bit of pastry or summat) there to stop this, and that's probably why it squeaks too; some sort of metal-to-metal perverted sex action thing happening (and the smoke is from the heat of passion).

Yep. A less restrictive zorst will make it run leaner, which wil probably make it idle slower. A REALLY restrictive zorst will make it idle very slowly. A longer exhaust may make it speed up, unless it's reaaaaalllly reeeeeeaaaaaaalllllyyy long.

really? your exhaust really makes that much difference to the way the bike runs? Ive got a normal sized exhaust with a little knob on the end about 2cm diameter I guess If I removed that, how would it run?

It's not just there for looks or to make the bike quieter.

Are we still talking about zorsts? this sounds a little dodgy... :confused:
Is an RGV150 2-smoke? Then stuffing around with the zorst will probably make it run like crap. If it's 4-stroke, then taking it off will make it sound more grunty, and run like crap, except maybe flat out, when it might produce a poofteenth more ponies.
