Yep, I was up at Manfield today and managed to get a few laps of the circuit that gave me a whole new perspective on the track.

After having spent most of the day on and around the track at the KR Ride Day with the Firestorm a couple of weekends ago, I had come to think that I knew my way around there even if I had only been doing slow times compared to the other Wgtnions on the forum.

Today it was in a cage, strapped into the passenger seat with a four point harness, in a cabin that was, for the most of my 5 or 6 laps, filled with tyre smoke, and coming out of every corner other than the hairpin in about a 20deg drift.

Many thanks to Dean "Wildman" Perkins and the GT Radial sponsored NZ V8 Touring Car team for the session in their Ford Falcon.

Now all I have to do next time I'm out there is not use the same braking markers that Dean used... feck those things pull up quickly.

Damn right brother. 325,000 kms on the clock and burns more oil than an iraqi oil field.

No idea what his times were actually, it all seemed to fly by too quickly. But yes, I have no doubt you'd kick his arse with the mighty Laser

Yeah it's certainly different when you get to try a track in something different than what you'd normally do it

I've done Ruapuna in and on
TZ250 Superkart
F1 Sidecars, with various riders and outfits
Various Motorbikes
5 Ton Race truck,Ron Salter 1100hp
CV8 Monaro,Paul Manuell,understeering pig that it was

each very different to the other and the most fun was the Truck

I dropped in for a few minutes to join the Manawatu Car Club. Just as I was leaving I saw a guy in bike leathers. How many bikes were there for the testday?

Trying to turn this thread around :ride:

I dunno mate --I don't think anything on this earth compares to the sense of speed in a superkart.
For those of ya that dont know those 250cc superkarts lap pukie FASTER than any bike and I think same speed or quicker than the v8 supercars.
They get nailed by the supercars only because the supercar has such a huge HP advantage
If you have never driven one and get the chance--do it --
100km/h feels like 200 and the braking is just phenominal.
