The right front indicator plastic is crumbling from age and I didn't help it by whacking it, so am looking for a replacment (failing which I'll get my hot glue gun out, I guess) or replacements.

Anyone got spares or compatible ones (from other years/models)? Let me know what you want for it...

Will do that if none available here... Thought if I had to pay for it, I'd keep it in the 'KB family'... :msn-wink:

Some old ones on TM too, off a GSX400. Might fit?

For new (pattern) ones anyway. They are the same as the GSX1100/550EF ones. Any matching set that look right for the year would be a good solution.

PLEASE - Not a set of flash LED ones. They just look tragic on an older bike....:no:

Looks like now I also have to find a pair of new front brake discs. I have a quote for a pair for about $400 from Aus but that'll take 4 weeks.

i may have a couple somewhere, used to have some NOS ones but these were the same as fitted to BR2 McIntosh so they went to one of those...

Why do you need to replace the discs?

Does the bike need to be revinned?

Not that I am aware of. The rego was on hold according to previous owner, I got an ownership cert from the NZTA, so I expect the rego renewal soon. A WOF was issued by a local MC dealer there in Taumarunui.

I had George [MC Doc] come by to check the bike because I encountered strong shuddering when braking [e.g. downhill], and the steering seemed to lock up when braking hard and I can't turn the handlebar! He said the steering bearing could be worn out and that the left brake disc looks warped [not straight].

George said to replace the disc, both preferably, and new ones, not 2nd hand. So far all he and I [eBay Oz] could find are 200 dollars a new disc [for a 750 Katana which looks identical] from Aus.

Would these fit?

Most bike shops stock dirt cheap universal ones, I have emgo's on the X7. Cost me twenty bucks.

Most of the bikes of that era had similar appearance/size ... find a bike wrecker and $20 should get you a good (matching) pair.

Never felt anything was wrong till... I dropped the bike two nights ago. :facepalm: Like a total noob, I stalled the bike at a traffic light, didn't have my right foot down [only left] and down we went. 240 kgs of bike fell on my right foot [big bruise but nothing broken, except pride and my inner biker]...

I'm so mad at myself - for not putting my right foot down [I was turning right, after all so I should have!], for not putting enough throttle, for not reacting fast enough, for not being strong enough to lift the bike... A kind gentleman quickly got out of his car and lifted the bike enough for me to get out from under it and we righted the bike in time before the oncoming traffic reached me [I was over the centre line :eek5: ].

It was only after this incident that the bike started to lock up the steering and shuddering when braking hard. All from a super-noob mistake! :brick: So now I pay for my mistake... Forgive me, Father biker, for I have sinned...

Put it up on the main stand ... find a friend (NZ dating ... ???) and get your (new) friend to sit on the back of the bike (keeping the front wheel off the deck) and have a close visual check of the front wheel, as it spins/brakes. Check the caliper mounts (only old alloy and do break/crack)

Check the whole front end from the bars/controls down.

While the bike's on the stand you'll be able to check the steering bearings (gotta love NZdating)

Have just done this and yes, the disc is warped. Bit of fairing busted but nothing a little hot glue won't take care of.

Front brake lever bent like a fish hook... <_< Scratch on engine cover, nothing else damaged thanks to my foot...:blink:

Thanks. I'm kicking myself, but thankfully bike and I overall OK and it managed to get me home. AND perhaps this incident revealed some issues that might otherwise have cropped up in a more disasterous way later on... :sweatdrop

Bent works ... trying to straighten them often does the damage.

Did you check for wheel bearing play ... ???

I'm not sure how to do that but from what I can tell, the front wheel doesn't move when I hold the front brake and try to move to and fro. The front suspension is very soft, so George will be changing the fork oil - maybe to a heavier weight like 15 wt.

Eventually I'll change the tyres too, as they've been sitting for years and the rubber compound may have hardened, so I'd feel better with new softer/stickier tyres. At least they won't be expensive - the rear is a 120.

Suzuki's usually get you home ... from there, reluctance sets in ... and decide not to go .... far.


I'm not sure how to do that but from what I can tell, the front wheel doesn't move when I hold the front brake and try to move to and fro. The front suspension is very soft, so George will be changing the fork oil - maybe to a heavier weight like 15 wt.

You can use a wooden broom handle to get a bit of leverage on the front wheel.Better to ask him about a springs upgrade. Is well worth the money.

Later ... when broken bits, brakes, and indicators are sorted.

Haven't found any but went ahead and got new ones made up. If only you'd turned up sooner... Thanks anyway. :yes:
