This wee bike had done approx 5500km when it was turned into a Pre ’89 club race bike. It is basically standard. Standard engine, carbs, exhaust etc. It is still running an air filter and electric start. It has been run on fully synthetic Mobil 1 or AGIP Race oil. Oil and filter changed after every 3rd meeting.
This has been totally reliable in the three years I have been running it. The only DNF was 18 months ago when the plastic oil pressure sender unit split (fortunately in the pits) leaking oil. This has been fixed and replaced. The cam belts have been replaced.
The tail piece is a fibre-glass F1 style, the front fairings are standard with the headlamp hold fibre-glassed up.
The standard 16” wheels have been replaced with 17” rims from a 400/600 Monster. To fit the rims I had new brake disk carriers machined at great cost up to suit the original cast iron disks. The rims, disk carriers and slicks etc cost over $1300 :( However doing this properly means that it is 100% Pre ’89 .
It has a quick action throttle and tether kill switch fitted.
It comes with a used Conti Attack front tyre, several different front sprockets and a few primary and main jets.
While it may not be the most powerful 400 this bike handles beautifully. A pair of down draft FCR carbs and gutting the cans apparently wakes them up quite nicely :) However the advantage of these bikes is that they are eligible for so many classes, Pre ’89, F3, BEARS F2, Lightweight Limited & BEARS Superstock, Clubmans etc. (E.g. at Greymouth this can enter F3 & BEARS).
This is a well maintained and very well presented Post Classic race bike ready to race.
Happy to work in with Bike Tranz or similar at buyers expense etc.
It is advertised elsewhere so I reserve the right to withdraw the listing at anytime.
