Could anyone point me in the right direction for a history of the Honda RS125.
I'm after how the models/years differ from each other, mainly in the frames and suspension department.
Purely on a curiosity level really. I tried an Internet search but didn't come up with much.

the evolution was 1995 with the intro of the NX4; pre 1995 (back to 1988) was the nf4.
1999-2000 saw geometry improvement.

Yeap thats pretty much it.
1998 was when they went to unleaded gas and introduced the powerjet carb as well and the "next gen" engine. different barrel base stud spacings and multiple sutle changes to the bottom end.
98 - 00 they went to a longer front suspension stroke. Then reverted back to a short stroke there onwards.
02 - 04 they did a radial mounted front caliper.
Early early model RS125's at wire wheels of some description.
Early NF4's had 2.15" front rim and 3" rear rim
94 NF4 had a 2.5" front rim and 3.5" rear rim
The rear hub was widen by like 5mm for the 95 onwards NX4.
04 was the last model change by the way. I think they were last produced in 09.
Most years they had a fair shape change and sutle porting.

2.15 was the early 17" NF4 rim width, but the 89s & prior were spoked & 18", actually not sure if 90 was first year of 17s, probably.

Thanks guys!
Am I correct in saying that when riders are after RS wheels for their buckets they'd be going for the late NF4 and NX4 wheels?
And these are both the 6 spoke wheels and both are 2.5 and 3.5" but the NX4 has a wider hub (as above). I take it they are likely the lightest and widest of the RS wheels which take slicks properly?
Also, what are these then?

Yeah thats a fair assumption however the older ones (non wire ones) work just as well. I have them on my bucket and they work great. There's piss all difference in profile with the tyres.
You can actually get marvics (magnesium alloy) which are even lighter than stock ones. But it would be criminal to see a bucket running those. They don't last anywhere near as long as they tend to crack.

There are a heap of different mags about, I've seen that pattern, don't think they are Techomag, but something similar.

I have one on the front of my bucket... Now to get the rest of the bike finished.

Older style Marchesini's, you can occasional pick these up for around $600 to $700.
I've got 3.25 rear and 2.25 front techno's as they were cheaper than genuine Honda NF4's. Plenty of magnesiums around just be careful what you buy as they do fail if not looked after.

True racing mags have a limited life span & they never meant for them to be around for 20 years. magnesium Doesn't like corrosion from scratches & crashes. genuine RS wheels will be heavier but more resilient. But I would like a set of well looked after mags, just can't afford them at any price atm.
Only other option is a set of road wheels, think the Yam stuff isn't too bad but there is some heavy old Suzi shite out there.
This chancer is trying to sell some FZR ones in the right size, I hear so he can buy more MB100 pistons:lol:.

90 to 94. There are internal differences but all are 35mm. How much do you want to spend? I know of a nice NF4 white power set up.

F comes before X in the Hondictionary
The later 95 on NX4 i believe had 35mm forks as well, they were just inverted:msn-wink:

They pop up in Japan yahoo auctions every couple of weeks; they generally cost around ~$100 NZ plus shipping. sometimes your lucky and manage to get clamps etc with them.

Don't know about that. Average Yahoo cost of NF4 forks with clamps including shipping is closer to $450NZ, and then you get stung with gst and duty on top  . Cost of RS parts has noticeably increased over the last 6 months but it has been pretty much offset by the high dollar. Getting up at 2am to lose an auction is a bitch.
Here's a nice set of NX4 forks, starting bid $1300NZ http://page16.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u45995981

They forks are a bit funky in the NX4. They are 35mm at the top clamp and like 41 at the bottom clamp. Makes it easy to put them in as you dont have to slide the 35mm through both clamps.
Later on the NX4 had radial mounts... Like the one's kel posted. I think the last version only. 04.

When I first starting buying stuff through Yahoo auctions it was great, you'd place your max bid and if you were leading with 6 hours to go then it was generally yours. Now days its like trademe and people wait for the last 10 minutes then start bidding stupid amounts  Wheels are the worst, my first set only cost 12000Yen (plus shipping), now days you have to be lucky to get a set for less than 30k, add shipping gst and duty and its not too flash. Heres a set that may be worth watching http://page10.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m106509884 . Also to note you need the tyres removed for shipping.
But hey sometimes you get lucky!

They did, but decided they didn't really want it so concentrated their efforts into improving their Ben10 Tombraider equivalent high scores.
