Otago Motorcycle club run the worst track days in NZ, AND IT IS NOT EVEN CLOSE!.

It would be really good if they could send representitives to a Motorcycling Canterbury track day, and
learn how it is done. Made the mistake of going year before last, decided it was the stupidest track day I had been to and was never going to one of thiers ever again. Last tear went cause I needed time on Levels and hoped maybe they had sorted thier "how to", in the mean time. Wrong wrong wrong. Won't be going this time and do not recommend, and in a free country, allowed my opinion, and allowed to share it. Have done already outside of KB, and I am not alone.............

As for the quarter mile, no idea, they might have that one sorted.

I hav spoken out quite loudly about how I feel about some of OMCC's trackdays being run in the past, and I think you may have been at the same one as I was last year.

I decided that instead of just whining about it, I would contact them, I wrote quite a long letter to them, outlining my complaints and concerns, of which there were quite a few. The club responded to say they had received my letter (it was an email actually) and that they would get back to me.

yeah fuckin right I thought.

about a week later though, I got a reply. They had discussed my concerns, and acknowledged several of them as being quite legitimate, and responded with an assurance that they were going to look into what else could be done to improve the trackday format.

I was surprised they actually replied to me, and I will be going to this trackday to see whether or not things have changed - its easy to complain about an event, but if you dont make contact and tell an organizer calmly, and clearly what your concerns are, and suggest a few things that might help, then how the fuck do you expect them to provide a better event for you in the future?

I will be taking them at their word and givint it another shot, I complained, they listened and responded promptly, and I am more than happy to give them another go.

just my $0.02

a question for you scorry,
the 1/4 mile stuff, will that be held during the lunch break, or will it be at the cost of some of the sessions? just wondering roughly how many sessions one could expect on the day per class, assuming no big crashes etc?
cheers

as an edit, I actually looked at the link. It looks like the classes have been condensed a little, which should mean more track time for each class?:first:

Im all for people expressing there opinions but it does help to explain why the OMCC run the worst track days.
Being told they are stupid is not going to help improve them in the future.
Tim may have been to the same day as you and rather than just saying the day was shit, he actually said why, hence why improvements have been made.

Thanks for getting in touch with the club, fully agree that rather than just bagging the day, give constructive feedback to make it better.
I believe the 1/4 mile will be held during the lunch break, so should not reduce track time for any other sessions.

thats great! the condensed classes should mean more riding time too, so just from what Ive read this one should be fantastic, Ill be trying to get a group together to come

Yep you may be right, I may have been better served by contacting and giving my subjective viewpoint in a submission to the club, but in approaches made on the day (without attitude too) made it clear I new nothing and should go away. That became exactly my plan, never go back.

I will be keen to get feedback from those who do go, and will be the first to aknowledge a job well done if it plays that way.

One biggie though, remember Cam Jones....... it could happen to any one of us any time, any track,

If OMCC continue to run the MNZ licence class as a 5 lap sprint race instead of a regular track day session as they are supposed to, and something bad happens, unless OMCC have an MNZ sanction/licence to run an official race meeting the subsequent liabilities may be bad for the club itself.

Grid start. Flag drop. 5 laps. Chequered flag finish.

That equals race. ( and fuck all track time )

Tigertim, I applaud your effort and hope you (and everyone else) are rewarded for it on the day.

cheers, I have an opinion, and everyone is entitled to hear it!!

from the link posted by scorry, the format has changed for more time on track overall, and if it works out, I will be a very happy person.
Ill post up a thread afterwards of my fun on the day:headbang:
