Looking at the OP title, I've even been hit in the gloves by stones which can only have been flicked up from my own bike (no other traffic around at the time). WTF?? Hitting myself with stones??

i broke me mates headlight once.....full throttle passing manouvres on a hot day.I was on me old CB900 and he was on a gsx 1100

And the moral is: If you're going to do 150mph on the road. Know exactly where you are and where you need to be braking. Clearly those two didn't!!

Been pelted with stones many a time by bikes in front. Amazing how a sportsbike can rip stones out of the tarmac, even when accelerating from 80kph ish (or perhaps it's the shit surface).

Radiator guards are essential imho. ;)

Nah, just make sure you're the bike in front. And then to be fair to those behind you, make sure you leave them well behind.

One of my last rides I was pelted by mates R1 in front. Smashed my Headlight protector (Cheaper than a headlight!!) plus several chips in fairing and helmet. Accelerating up passing lane. No gravel, the R1 just ripped the stones out of the tarmac on accel. :headbang: impressive!

I hate it when you come across a newly sealed bitumen patch, especially with the road works in the summer/heat. End up with stones stuck in various bits of the bike and needing to clean them off with a bit of kero. Seen some bikers following too close to a vehicle up front getting showered with the loose chip (doesn't take a genius to just give more following distance? :scratch: )

Had a rock squeezed out by a truck tyre hit me on the leg while crossing the harbour bridge. That left a nice bruise for some days.
Had another rock smack into one of my front shock absorbers with a hell of a clang a few years ago. Later I discovered exactly where the pit mark was when I had to replace a fork seal which the pitting tore out.

Spare a thought for UK drivers. A lot of the M1 is concrete. Loose stones don't stick in to that very well, and some of the stone impacts around where a truck has dropped a bit of road metal or similar can be really scarey.

A few years ago I drove a cage in to one such area & was very lucky to exit with only a chipped windscreen. Did the same thing in the 1970s & was not so lucky. Anyone else know what the M1 feels like on a miserable day in mid winter with a 500mm hole punched out of it so you can see to drive home?
