SWERVE
23rd September 2012, 20:20
The forecast was for fine weather and it didnt disappoint.
However a drift car meeting on sat had left a lot of extra rubber on parts of the circuit...... this proved to be a little of a hiderence for the larger cc bikes but didnt seem to bother the smaller cc machines.
Development class saw 46 bikes take to the track for qualifying (thats the best so far this season)
After his blistering 1.16:8 at Levels Cam Hudson was back on his RG to try a repeat at Ruapuna.
Qualifying saw Team KiwiStars a little dissapointed with 9th overall (1st 250) and a 3rd row start.With a 1.57
Race 1
Bailie got a great start and was 4th into T1 (almost getting his back wheel knocked out from under him by a hard charging Mr D Charlett on his wifes 250 Ninja.... Dennis ended up in the sand at T1 on lap 1.... maybe the mighty Ninja had gotten the better of him!!!!!)
Bailie had an intense battle all race with his Dad/J Hoogie/M Hoogie/A Bowers with only .700 seperating them all in lap times.. Bailie placed 6th overall/ 1st 250 with a best time of 1.55.235 this was almost 2 secs quicker than his PB on any bike. On his return he was "buzzin" as was Alex Bowers who had also done a PB of 1.55:1 . Cam Hudson had also beaten the S/Stock record with a 1.53:168.
Race 2
Saw another great start but with Dennis C managng to make it past T1 he had a fight on for 250 honours. Dennis showed him the way and recorded a new 250 lap record of 1.54:013. Bailie obviuosly got a bit of a tow and also improved to a 1.54:800 and finished 7th overall and 2nd 250 (he didnt mind being second fiddle to Dennis)
Race 3
Another awesome start...... Bailie managed to hang onto Dennis for 3 laps and it improved him to a PB of 1.54:764 but Mr C was flying and managed to push the new record to a whopping 1.53:667 showing the young guns what is possible. Must not forget Cam Hudson on his Rg... he had improved his record time in race 2 too 1.51:542............... but went on to further it in race 3 too 1.51:401.
What a great day!
Yesterday i had sat down and come up with a plan of what Bailie and he team had to achieve by Dec..... it was low 1.55s - i will have to rewrite my plan!!!!
I am so proud of my young rider... he has already exceeded all my expectationsand is a joy to work with.
BIG congrats to Can Hudson for some awesome riding... he was flying on his superbike too untill a gearbox problem sidelined him(it is a Honda)
and he says his R6 will be ready for next round.......... i cant wait
Also BIG WELL DONE to Alex Bowers..a new PB and some great riding.
