Anyone keen to hit Muriwai beach this weekend?
I figure I will bring the gopro camera and try and catch some footage.
A detour on the way home for a pint at the Puhoi pub is always an option for me (this detour can/will include a recently found track).
Saturday low tide is mid afternoon, so an after lunch excursion suits me. Times can be casual to meet others.
I think we need this Auckland rideout thread, I don't want to have to ride down that motorway to join the Waikato guys just cause they are being more proactive about rides. So come on AKL, we can make an effort too. :niceone:

Way to go Chris! I'd be keen if I lived in Aucklandia...but The Bay lot (Still got the rights to call ourselves that after beating BOP last week in the footy!) got a bit of riding of our own planned for this weekend

Also nice to meet you Andy, was a good ride, just a shame I am so bike-unfit, too many weeks off the bike I had almost forgotten how to ride.

I am re locating to the Tron in the fairly near future and having never been to Murawai I expect a guided tour once I am up there.
I've sometimes thought an inner city Auckland adventure tour could be good for tourists too(I.e people from South of the Bombays), taking in things like One Tree Hill, Liverpool street off K Road, that steep wiggly street that goes down to Parnell rise/Stanley St, maybe Domain drive up to the museum, Tamaki Drive/Mission Bay, North Head/Devonport and whatever else seems interesting.

Pretty sure we can organise that one. Give me a shout when you are up this way.

Anyone keen for a bit of trail-ride style adventure this weekend?
I figure I will put my 1/3rd worn Tractionator on and give it a whirl (won't bother with a full knobblie, that would make it too easy).

I'll be there Chris... but not on the R80!
Should be good for mid sized bikes as long as you stay on the short loop, the longer loop usually has some more interesting places to get stuck in and a couple of times around that usually knackers me on the 450 so I wouldn't recommend it for bigger stuff. Vege usually turns up and sometimes has an adventure bike or two with him so it's all quite do-able.
I try and get there early-ish so keep an eye out for me!

Cool, will try and get there early as well, will keep an eye out for you.
Maybe I should put on the knobblie and give the big-boys-loop a try.

The long loop is probably do-able and would recommend a decent knob for that, lots still get stuck or find that loop hard on trail bikes so you would have to be prepared to push up a couple of hills etc if you take it on. Having said that, you seem to be able to punt the 690 pretty well Chris, so why not give it a shot, I would definately not do the challenge sections tho or you will be there for the day! Al's usually there and a few others you will recognise so you won't be short of moral support (must take camera!).
I would start on the short loop and see how that goes, it's usually only 5 or 10 kms and quite rideable, the long loop is somewhere in the 25 to 30kms and is a guaranteed workout.

Since there are no other adventure bikes coming along I might as well put the knobblies on and give it a decent nudge.

It was a great trail ride, the main loop was pretty tight and hard work but the smaller intermediate loop was much better with heaps more flow and still had a couple of challenging uphill options.
I found out the Karoo3 front tire is not adequate for slipper grass/mud down-hills and had a small argument with gravity (which I lost). Currently paying for that with a pretty sore upper arm/shoulder.
Good fun tho, keen to try some more trail rides maybe some less sand based than the woodhill ones.

Well done Chris, when I passed you on the main loop you were keeping up a great pace, well ridden given your front tyre and the weight of the 690, there must be a few embarrassed trail bike riders around today!
When I hear of a better trail ride that suits the 690 I will let you know.
Cheers, Iain

I had to Google that, I wouldn't suggest trail rides, that's a bit too much road bike for off road. Gravel and easy 4x4 tracks shouldn't be a problem dependant on your skill and tyres, there's a lot of good gravel roads north of Auckland and on the west coast down to Raglan or look on Facebook at Auckland Gravel riders club, they organise a lot of rides in the area. Unfortunately I am predominately riding off road now so don't organise any rides around Auckland so can't help but maybe Chris, 10 bike kid or Patuora could chime up?

Anyone keen to hit Muriwai beach on saturday 14th Dec?
Figured since it is low tide is about 2pm I might tarmac/gravel it to the beach via Wilsons Road, play in the dunes then down the beach to Muriwai and home before about 4pm.

Fishing would have been a good idea.
Was so nice just to be so far away from anyone else. And such a fun ride out there, Wilson's road beach access is such a great track.

Anyone interested in camping at Pueroa forest next weekend (1-2nd Feb)?
I figure I will head down Sat AM, have a look see around a few of the tracks (North Block and Keepa Rd) and camp at one of the doc camp-sites in the forest.
Sunday might be a few more tracks in the forest, or head south and duck through the 42nd before heading home.
I had a quick ride into Keepa road a while back and it seemed to have plenty of 4x4 side tracks to explore, should be a good amount of riding available there. I also would like to duck down and check out Whanganui Bay.

I am thinking of hitting the Coromandel next weekend (27/28 Sept).
I figure I will head over and camp up at Stony Bay, do a few of the classic Coro roads. Probably spend more time behind the camera than riding. Rinse and repeat for the way home back to AK.
Anyone keen to join?
