be safe out there and look out for a blue undercover holden driven by a female officer with dark hair and sunglasses crossing red lights with NO SYREN ON. Happened at 18.21 corner Beach rd Tangihua st Auckland Central. She was travelling very fast with only dash blue red lights on coming from Parnell. I spotted it at the last moment and avoided being hit, but just because I always look both sides very carefully when I cross a green traffic light. What does the law say? Can they do that?

Very evasive for someone who hasn't been recklesly driving around motorcyclists. Deeply suspicious behaviour right there.

But apparently they must be on the correct side of the road if they haven't got their siren on and the light is green in their direction of travel. (long story but verified as part of insurance claim process)

No worries there ... she didn't hit anything. So there's no claim that needs verified ... <_<

The OP is just lucky it wasn't a fire engine ... those things hurt ...

If the officer was told by Com's not to approach an address with the siren on ... so as not to notify an offender the police were closing in. It would be perfectly acceptable ... regardless of normal police policy/rules.

WE don't know all the details of that particular officers mission ... so none of us are in a position to comment on how wrong it may have seemed to be.
