Go on, you know you want to. Now that the Grand Challenge is cancelled this will be New Zealand's only organised 1000 miler for 2012.

I hate you every year you post this... perhaps especially much this year with no GC...

Still... I shall console myself with the C1KC and TT... :bleh:

I received an invitation yesterday to take part. would be a nice warm up for the TT. So count me in. Having never done this ride before, are there fewer checkpoints than the TT, and is there a GPS route that can be loaded on the day? Not that it matters, quite capable of using a map.

Fewer checkpoints yes.

GPS ... ??? its only a small island ... only a bit over 1600 km's, makes it easy to remember the route. :innocent:

A radar detector will be of more use ...

Mark, Knowing your riding style, you'll find this a nice cruise. Far fewer checkpoints than the TT, I haven't yet decided whether there will be 5 or 6, and 2 or 3 of those will be self check ones like on the TT.

I will consider making a GPS route available this year.

Ok, definately count me in. Gives me a reason to get some decent riding gear. Got pretty cold on previous TT overnight sections.

Don't worry ... it would not surprise me ... if you able to drop in at your own place to get more warm gear ... without being far off your route

Way to go guys.

I did this event once at it still rates incredibly highly to me. The welcome I received was second to none. the roads are just magnificent. And I think a very responsible appproach has been taken by having specified timings for checkpoints being open. This stops racers and ticks all the boxes for me safety wise.

I will never forget the trip over the Lyndis Pass in the early hours seeing hundreds of rabbits leaping out on to the road or sitting on the road in front of me. I avoided most...

This is an excellent ride - highly recommended.

Less than one week to go. We are still accepting entries, but you're too late for the T-Shirt.

I can't be sure until I get home. Morley is handling the entries while I'm away, but I know of 9, so could be around a dozen or so.

That's a real shame Shrek. Was looking forward to the company.
Jantar, are you going to provide a GPS upload on Friday night?
Did you find out how many are attending and where's a good place to get breakfast in Alex on Saturday?

... and where's a good place to get breakfast in Alex on Saturday?

The Tin Goose ... opposite the information center (Which has the big water wheel on Centennial ave) or at Chatto Creek itself.
