Here's a long shot.
This dude is selling his RMZ 290. He's throwing his 250 barrel in as well. It's been listed for a few months and he's dropped the price of it from 4900 to 4400. Make him an offer on the spare barrel.

Yeah that looks like a good source for a barrel, Unfortunatley what we really need is the expensive bit . Head and Cams. Thanks.

Cheers that looks like a good service, Seems like new from the states is about the cheapest option at around $470 us for a head. Even with gst still miles cheaper than here.

Any clever engineers been able to repair 250/450 F heads. I notice a couple in the states who offer to weld the cam jounals/caps and then re line bore them. Also back in the day line boring and fitting plain bearings was an option, Any one come across anything like this in NZ.

Be curious to know what caused it once you have it pulled apart.

White gate at The Farm killed it. Got water/ mud in engine only a little and blocked the oil strainers , didnt take long after that to damage it. Cams have picked up in the head and big end has gone, bore is ok, but will obviously throw in a new piston while its apart.
Still not quite sure where the sludge got into the motor, possibly the breather hose, but on the gopro footage the water went over the back of the seat for a second.
The bike did stall in the mud but had started again easily enough so we where happy the air box was fairly dry, but maybe not!

most stuff ive got in from ebay only takes a week to ten days and is generally trackable so you can see where it is on line
best advise is try looking on ebay use lot of different wording to find what you need ie cylinder they calll a jug a lot of the time so pays to have a really good look round to get the deals and even if they say the wont ship outside of the states ask a lot will if you ask
