I said 800, (oh dear poor Shrek has obviously gotten swamp mud in his eyes :bleh:). The 800 has so many advantages over the 650 (imho) and feels half the weight of the 1200's. And note I did not suggest the rattly multistrada, I am sure TIMG wants a bike that can actually go off road.

I've had this Pro-Oiler (www.pro-oiler.net (http://www.pro-oiler.net)) on my Transalp and 625SXC. The chain and sprockets on the Transalp lasted until the 24,000km and 48,000km services which wasn't bad for a bike that did as many miles off the seal as it did. During the week I have nutted out the location of the various components and today it was all fitted up. Unlike the Scott Oiler, the Pro Oiler is electronically controlled matching oil delivery to speed and delivery rates can be adjusted from the dash to suit the conditions.
271186
The GS has limited under seat storage and I did not want to that that up with the oil bottle, pump and computer box and leave me nowhere for a basic tool and puncture repair kits etc. There's not a lot of spare space anywhere but I found a convenient spot where it will be well tucked out of harms way but easily accessable too.
271187
Double sided delivery nozzle fitted to a chain guard mounting bolt and out of the way of the chain.
271188
Controller mounted to the hand guard easily visible and opporated.
Must get out and :ride: the thing :) Maybe tomorrow:woohoo:

Only time the Transalp let me down was following a service when the workshop didn't tighten the valve covers or similar. Transalp did 48000 without missing a beat, KTM 640 I had for 12000km with out issue - not even a puncture.
barverian bullshit... whats the other 6 issues been are they common to the bike? and is it not the usual same old F650 engine?
Yeah, a derivative of the 650 single that's been around for yonks but now apparently manufactured under licence in China? It's had a persistent oil leak from the LH cover that drips onto the exhaust. First two fixes were replacing gaskets (drop it off to have a look at and decide whats required, then drop it off again when parts have arrived) Last time it was in I was told that they were known for having a problem with the water pump seals - dunno why that wasn't checked out the first couple of times if its a known problem and save a lot of mucking around....
I'm over this bike - it didn't light my fire. As a result of the problems I've been reluctant to take it on any lengthy trips so have done bugger all riding. I'm over getting wet and muddy too. The next bike will be a more road focused soft roader for two up touring in comfort. :)

Only time the Transalp let me down was following a service when the workshop didn't tighten the valve covers or similar. Transalp did 48000 without missing a beat, KTM 640 I had for 12000km with out issue - not even a puncture.

there's a guy down here with the same model as yours Tim & he's having the same issues as you, he's had the bike for 10 months & it's been back in the shop 5 times, I suggested he asked for his $$$ back & buy some thing else

Should be quite within your rights. Consumer guarantees, MVDI,MTA etc. give it a go if its not fit for purpose.

Seems it may have had an airlock in the system from the repair work done to fix the oil leak from the water pump oil seal  Picking it up tomorrow. Anybody want a hardly used G650GS? I really liked my KTM. The Transalp was awesome but the KTM was my favourite by a big margin and the Queen of the Hobbits liked it better on the back of that than the Transalp. Pity it was so tall, even when lowered. After the KTM, the frumpy German fraulein really didn't have a chance. I see Casbolts have a Transalp just like my old one in immaculate condition. Hmmmmm...

Nice light bike, very predictable and stable, very responsive, fantastic suspension, great brakes, great riding position. The way I had it set up it was pretty much my view of the ideal adventure bike

Yup, a Duc has been on the bucket list ever since I had a ball riding my Duc race bike the long way home from Nelson.
Will be interesting to see how this performs as a touring bike/occasional back road blaster.
A couple of shortish rides bodes well. Handles like a dream and heaps of grunt :)

Nice one Tim - confess I've always lusted after a Ducati and certainly the MultiStrada has been among those I've admired - does this mean the G650GS has gone (or is going from your stable?) - I've just cleared a R100GS PD from my watchlist on TM - I'm still learning the art of contentment

A trip to Duanes early on could be good for peace of mind[ if not your wallet!] Duane looks after the 400 when necessary for me so I guess he'll be rubbing his hands. However the 2v Duc's are not bad to work on once you get your head around a different approach to valve adjustment.
Cheers.

Hope you enjoy the new steed. My 1100s was great in terms of handing and grunt. Sadly it did not work for me as a two up bike (we are both too large) and lacked the ground clearance for back roads. Having said that, it handled well on well formed gravel, as experienced in driving rain on the KB rally on the Wet Coast.
