Fuel gasket

HI people it would seem that my attempts of fixing my bike were comeplete untill i started it up and took it for a lil spin. 1 of the fuel "bulbs" underneath the carb is leaking fuel just a tiny bit but its a drop every now and again im 100% sure its comming from where the "bulb meets the rest of the carb i will go in and see if they have any rubber gaskets off the shelf but im thinking most likely not and it will be a bit of a wait. So the question is is there any type of make your own gasket stuff that will handle fuel i know you can get many silicon gaskets for all sorts of things but havent ever come across something for fuel is there such a thing cause id love to pull the carbs out again seal it up and ride this weekend.

Or how much fuel is safe to be leaking when your riding a bike im thinking zero fuel leaks is the way to go but waiting for a gasket for 2 weeks is just far to long. Any help would be appreciated.

any recomendations on a sealant that wont fall apart with fuel touching it?

It's called a float bowl gasket, unless you're seeing it come past the overflow, which would be a bit odd, in that case it's be a float valve not sealing.
Contact this fellow http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Listings.aspx?member=106097 and ask for a set of them, you may as well do all four.

While the carbs are out, clean them (no point doing half a job) and set the floats, then sync them. Google is your best buddy

I'm not sure if the Hornet ran the same carbs as the MC19 CBR (vp-05 32mm) or the 30.5mm VP20 found on the mc22. Either way, they're Keihin units and easy to get parts for

Its definitly the Bowl seal. Man o Man i have learnt heaps with the whoel process of pulling the bike apart i think i have getting the carbs off to a fine art 10 mins or so. So interesting to see how everything all fits together.

So next question while i wait for some gaskets to turn up is it still safe to ride. While im riding and then stop you can see a bit of fuel on the bowl but no sign anywhere else. once teh engine is off you can see it collecting on the screws takes a min or so, so its a slow leak its on carb #3 and if i turn the fuel off everytime i turn the engine off it shoudl be ok??????????

anyway when does it leak fuel? if it leaks it when it's parked you've got other issues that are causing the fuel to get that high in the bowl. and putting new gasket etc in it will only allow the fuel to fill up the carb and then go into the cylinder and cause some real damage.

seems to be the needle aint settling so that'll need a bit of work.
best turn the gas off most bikes have vacuum operated fuel taps these days which should turn the gas off automatically but not sure on the hornets.

what sort of gaskets does it have? did you need new ones or were the old ones just poorly seated?

I havent actually pulled the carbs off agin since i saw this as i had pulled things apart about 5x now and everytime it was a leak from something else all of them perished O-rings that'l teach me for just fixing the problem. My #1 carb was doing the same thing but i had a spare bowl with gasket in it so i swapped that and no more leaks the carbs have been sitting for a while so im wondering if the float may not be shutting off properly? I will order a set of gaskets if i can other wise the plan is to pull the bowl off tinkle with the floats put a bit of fuel gasket cementy stuff on bolt her up and cross my fingers.

But before i do that will it be ok to ride still?

Better than swearing at old shitty screws with a stubby screwdriver between the carbs and crank case?
But that's just me.

If it's overflowing all the time, it'll be your float valve
If it's running pig rich on that cylinder it'll be your float valve

Well the guy from Trademe cant help with bowl gaskets. off to super cheap to see what i can find im pretty sure its the floats as #1 was leaking and took it off tiddled with the floats and put another bowl on and all good so im hopeing the same here but thinking i should get some gasket stuff aswell.

It wouldn't hurt to clean the float valves out, clean the seat with brasso and a cotton bud.
I'm pretty sure they run a rubber type tip on the float needle too, it'd pay to check it for wear. I might have some needles that fit somewhere

I found a sim issue when we put a fuel inj pump into my ZXR400 tank. REPCO see a gasket goo thats for fuel, its blue and seems to work well, bout $20 off the shelf. i can look at the lable when i get home from work. NOTE im using this as a gasket.....works well.

i can vouch for this stuff hylomar blue is amazing sealed the all the carb bowls with this some of the seals were pretty persihed screw them all back together carbs on the bike and 20 mins later off on a ride such good stuff no leaks and no set time 2 will most likely fix many a thing quickly that needs a gasket.
