I noticed a police cop on a bike in the rain on Saturday, it was hosing down. Does anyone know what brand of wet gear they use as presumably they purchase pretty decent stuff for their guys. I havnt been able to get completely waterproof gear since Line 7 stopped making bike gear a thousand years ago.

Any of the simple $50-$100 rain jackets/pants/1pc are waterproof, decent brand of course.

Techniflex bib pants and jacket from protector safety. Made for farmers, welded seams and NEVER leaks. I swear by it

I seriously doubtr there is such thing as waterproof motorcycle gear ... at least I've never found any ...

I do like my Macna jacket - it is the driest thing I have ever ridden in .. when I bought it I asked the salesman how waterproof it was - he said "About five hours ..." .. and that's about it ... in the rain it keeps me dry for about five hours ... and I'm happy with that ...

Nothing is going to keep you dry for ever ...

+1 on the one piece. Done huge miles in horrendous weather without a problem. Make sure you pee before putting on, though. They seem to have a symbiotic relationship with the bladder.

My jacket, Hein Gericke is still water tight but i have yet to find a pair of strides that have a water proof crutch so always carry a pair of over trous like the ones in the link. Apart from a one piece the only things that keep the jewels dry while your sat in a puddle.

If you have an ample budget look up Rukka. Mine has withstood what, probably 15-20 hours of rain, bone dry inside. Basically the gear has a higher limit than myself, which is good enough ;)

However, not many want to pay that, so the cheap motorcycle jackets/pants work well. The key trick is layering your gear correctly so that the water doesn't pool or run through a join between items.

If you lift your bum off the seat occassionally the water is blown backwards and your clown jewels will not be sitting in puddles ...

Our BMW gear is part of a 3 part system. It's a neoprene Comfortemp suit, keeps you warm. The outer layer has a goretex liner which can be zipped in and out, making hem theoretically waterproof.

I have a BMW 2 piece rain suit which is part on an old 3phasen suit I have for personal use, it's more waterproof than my new Santiago gear.

I'm with everyone else though. Can't think of much gear that is truly waterproof forever.

The Newmarket viaduct is remarkably waterproof. Can't use it anywhere else tho. I cut my teeth on R80RTs under the NM viaduct. These days I park under the Moorhouse Overbridge, Christchurch bound these days.

Common theme appears to be keeping a permanent structure over your head. Simple ideas always the best. Also near a donut shop. Bonus.

I wear a Rev'it jacket and pants over my leathers - easy to put on over all my other gear (including boots), and very waterproof. Not a bad price either: $60 for the pants, and $70 for the jacket. Folds up small enuff to fit in my tank bag. Beats anything I've ever tried before (including the old vinyl Line7 gear the cops used to wear back in the 70s). Forget those stupid one-piece suits of any brand or price - you sweat like a broiled chicken in those if there's the merest hint of solar radiation (or engine heat), and they're a pain to climb into. I wore mine about three times and gave it up as a very unfunny joke, as it kept the rain out, but also kept all the moisture in.

We just got authorized to purchase custom made earth sea sky jackets. They are adapting their Zeal jacket for us. I think we are getting shorter length jackets, with longer arms.

Wore one for a full day in the rain in Wellington couple of months back. It was the trial version. Stayed waterproof all day. Like, ALL day.

Gotta endorse local companies. I understand they manufacture locally too. I wouldn't endorse them if they weren't bloody good, as I have nil financial or personal interests in them. Buy their gear, just know that we are wearing a modified version.

Donuts.
