HI All! I'll be visiting in a little bit for a month or so and am looking for advice and or help in securing my plans. Currently I'm working at the south pole, Antarctia and will redeploy sometime in mid Feb to CHCH. While cages seem to be readily available everywhere, I just can't stomach the idea. So I'll be looking for a bike to tour around on. I've been looking in the NZ bike trader, trademe.com, exchangepoint.com, bikepointNZ. Mostly looking for a sport tourer in the 5-6k nzd, older BMW or such, tho anything will do. I'll have a pillon for part of the trip. Definatly looking forward to meeting some new people and catching some of the locals favorite rides. Another option I may consider would be a bike swap... I live at the base of the Rocky Mountains (Denver, CO, USA) and have several bikes at home to borrow off, if anyone were to want to visit my area.

Thanks

Hey Mountain ... you're looking in the right places for a bike at least. You ought to get a pretty good one for what you are wanting to pay , so no worries there. The other place you can check out is www.trade-exchange.co.nz (http://www.trade-exchange.co.nz/) .onearmbandit is in the chch area so pm him for some local knowledge. Hope you enjoy your stay !!

Christchurch is well served with good bike shops. Eric Wood should be able to show you a range of bikes that may meet your needs.

I will be going back to uni in chch on about the 17th of feb or so. If you need a hand with anything just flick me a PM.

The Buy Sell and Exchange should be a good start for a place to find a bike.

Let us know how you go.

Try Trademe (www.trademe.co.nz) then click on "trademe Motors"... the rest you can no doubt work out for yourself. Bikes, Helmets, packracks blah blah blah... HEAPS of good stuff in here

Not a bad site all in all and you'll find a lot of good stuff on here...

tip - find the one(s) you want and wait till the very last minute before the auction ends and "snipe" it out of there...

Might be handy to have everyone from KB to set up a "KB" in their login/handle and make sure we don;'t star bidding against each other?

I used to work at Casbolts Honda, and know the guys as Sportzone Suzuki really well. Eric Woods is Harley, Aprilla, Moto Guzzi, and Yamaha, but tends to be a bit rich. (Most are though!) The local Kawasaki dealer is pretty small, but does have a few 2nd hand bikes.

As also stated, the Buy Sell and Exchange is a great source. PM me when you get to Christchurch.

I'll be looking around via the net for bikes..... and will be sure to let everyone here know when I'm in the area. Hopefully I can meet up with some local when I land and get some firsthand info. I'm just as likely to try and pick up local to CHCH for the convienence and to not loose any travel time. Should be getting in sometime just before the 17th of Feb. And a meet up to catch a coffee or what not should be in order. So help dealing with good people and avoiding the choss out there would be a great help.
thanks again.

Looks like I'm schedueled to be back in CHCH feb 11th. From there I'll be bike shopping and hoping to meet some local riders. Any prefered shops for gear?, I'll be needing a new helmut and gloves. And any local hangouts for killing time? I'll be PMing a couple of ya'll as the time gets closer.
