Amazing; the places where it's cold enough to ice over a pool in Winter, yet warm enough to have that pool in Summer.

(Our long thin island "near" both the equator and South pole is not representative.)

Almost moved to Ontario in Canada. Upto 40 degrees in the summer and snow chains every winter. The winters are so severe that we changed our minds :cold:

This guy surely must be up in the running for a Dawin Award ?

Just imagine how cold the water would have been!

A severe case of Internal Willy

I had a Buick Skylark drophead coupe originally from Ontario. You don't leave cars outside in winter, and unless you're wealthy you don't heat your garage. The Skylark had a heater element in the block, when you get home you plug your car in or she's frozen in the morning.

Only an honerable mention, failed to remove himself from the gene pool.

The other thing that occurs; if the ice had broken, could he have got cut up by sharp edges?

(YellowDog: When my folks decided to pack up and leave the Netherlands, their choices were Australia, Canada and N.Z.; they thought Australia was too hot, they'd seen enough snow already to put Canada off the list, thus we're here.)

Twizel in winter is cold enough to freeze pools, and hot enough to enjoy them in Summer.

Years ago a tv journo decided to do a piece standing on the frozen surface of the Hotel Central, Alexandra swimming pool.
He was ok out there on the ice ....for a while. Went through during a live feed.
We laughed.

Manorburn Dam - Love it.

Vividly recall a visit in 1971.
Vividly, that's a laugh - so hungover.
I really do have a lot of memories of that trip. Nationals were on. Skating - all forms, Curling, Touring, drinking, laughing.
Fan-bloody-tastic time.
Smiling now, recalling it.
Every trip to Alexandra was memorable in a good way.

In the fifties/sixties, Forest Products at Kinleith had all their trucks parked outside. They had an element in the bottam radiator tank, and one in the sump. Plugged in at night and in the morning the water and oil were already warmed up.

You can see Fire engines plugged in - ready to go.
