So it's been probably 10+ years since I did any real riding, and this week I picked up my new (well actually 20 year old) Ducati 400ss - a nice little bike to get back into riding with. Ive spent the last few days famiiarising mysef with the bike, and gettiing used to riding a "real" bike again having ridden nothing but a Vespa for the last 2 1/2 years. What's occurred to me is that with riding, although you really have to keep your wits about you, it's a perfect outlet for stress relief - not through screaming down the road at 100mph (thats just not my thing!), but that you have to be focussed solely on doing what you are doing. Unlike in a car, you cant go on auto pilot on a bike and have to be completely focusssed on doing what you are doing. When your like that, all the stress in your day to day life is put on hold for a while - thats got to be a good thing!

Well pleased to have a bike again - am really enjoying it. Looking forward to hooking up with some fellow KB's for a ride soon :msn-wink:

Cheers

Yep, fully agree with the focus of riding alleviating stress (real or imagined) and after a decent day in the saddle the rose tinted glasses can go back on :niceone:

Personally i find screaming down the road at 100mph to be stress relieving.
I find riding bikes to be a very personal experience, its you against the road, the weather, the cages and its like that new found freedom you get with you first get a car license; it stops being about the destination but rather the journey.

That pretty much sums it up for me!

at one time motorcycles were my whole (non working) life.I rode my bike to work,i taught a beginers motorcycle course on saturday mornings or afternoons, was also involved in an advanced course, belonged to a motorcycle club, helped with race setups on street courses,on the committee, rode the takas every weekend, went on trips, followed the nats over xmas, would do 40k in a year.
Its much more relaxed now,but the shortest ride is still a combination of a real buzz and a zen type experience...

there are so many "best things about biking"

the ride itself is for me the apex of biking, but it is closely followed by 95% of all things "biking" whether it's bikes, riders, journeys and destinations, bike/riding gear, fireside chats, rallys, racing, learning or modifying.. hell even window shopping in bike shops is a great thing about biking.. but it's the ride and everything that goes on during, that is the best thing about biking for me..
