A couple of very powerful Australian Road safety videos.

http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=Z2mf8DtWWd8

Lots of other road safety vids there, a couple for the ATGATT proponents, a couple about speed and so on.

A lot more graphic than the ones here, and it seems more effective too...

Way ahead of any road safety advert ever seen here in NZ...(spotted Swaine from Sea Patrol acting in the vid)
I have the odd alcholic drink and got on the bike and rode home before today...
Been along time though, haven't done it in several of years now..
I don't condone it, but know those who will have a beer or two with food...will that do any harm?..don't know that answer to that.
I am more of an OJ or Cranberry juice drinker now....leave the beer for the bike is turned off for the day.

We've had some graphic ones too like the two country lads in the ute but all ours are car based. They run motorcycle focused ads :gob: I like the put yourself in the motorcyclists position one ;) some of the others are sobering.

you can make the adds as graphic as you like, same as putting shocking pics on ciggy packets and all the other deterrents and you can make lifejackets compulsory on boats, there is always going to be the people who feel its not going to happen to them and will carry on doing as they like, we all know texting while driving is dangerous and yet i see probably 4 or 5 people texting while they drive every day

You have a point there JimO, relevance, and the one that most of the ads fall down on is getting a bit 'unrealistic', pushing their barrow a bit too far. Would have doing 68 instead of 60 been that benifical when in fact it was the car drivers failure to see him and being faster instead he would have been clear of the intersection before the car got there the same as being slower meaning the car had gone, (refers to one of their bike ads but also similar to one of our ads 60 becomes 50 umm funny that.)

Yep that's pretty graphic. Pointless too though, as for 90% of people this is the sort of thing that happens to "other people" instead of themselves...

But nothing that we do will work for everyone.

Thats no excuse at all to do nothing, which is what you appear to be advocating.

makes you wonder why we piss moneys away on our own pathetically inferior propaganda... We should just piggyback off TAC, be cheaper & more effective.
Like people have pointed out most will be ignored or under "won't happen to me banner", but IMO ones like the no-gear bike & especially scooter ones shown on reg basis will have the "skins" thinking about their choice of gear a little more.
Also their ads appear to be much more realistic & hard hitting, more likely to make an impact. Rather than our "dave" & "ghost chips" which just become nothing more than jokes.

I think it somes up very well what families go through when you experience death of a loved one first hand...it brought back a lot of deep feelings watching it including the policeman crying in my kitchen

That sucks for you, no one should go to their childrens funeral for any reason. Sorry man.

Jesus, the part with the little kid left me feeling a bit ill. Plus the part at 2:22
Very well done though, a reminder of how fragile we are.

In a non piss taking way, (which really still upsets me), I really think that as brutally vivid as those ads are, they will have little effect on current riders. We know the risks, and we've each heard a million stories from heaps of sources. I think these ads will sink in more with the women folk, and guys will start getting the hard word that it's bikes or pussie. I know heaps of you are going to say you'd choose bikes, and I also know that most that do are full of shit.

Just my take.

Meh, I can live without the damned cat... Useless lazy selfish animal anyway, dogs are better - Loyal, dependable, brave and always eager to please.

I dunno, bikes are my other halfs whole life and have been for 40 years....he knows the rules and the speed restrictions apply when Im on the back, not that im an old Nana but his once only effort at 220kms earned him a belt on the helmet and no speakies for a week or so. Hes just parked another toy in the garage and hes breaking his neck to get out on it this weekend. I have no doubt he will wind it up on a back road in the Rapa somewhere. Hes just getting over cancer treatment, I figure he knows life is short and grabs it by the balls. After my daughters death I have become a believer in fate playing a part in where or how we die but I think with regard to the effects of ad campaigns you probably have to experience first hand to truely understand what a road death does to your family and mental health. My partner understands how I feel but he didn't go through it with us. Funny though, we had a discussion just last week on whether if we had to choose between bikes or sex, we both chose bikes!!!

Jez, I hope Mrs Berg doesn't see that post. She might choose her bike as well.
In all honesty though, very good and very powerful ad. Problem is, many of our younger "PlayStation" generation kids would just think it was funny and wouldn't get the full message. Try to teach them about vehicle safety while showing pics of serious and fatal car and truck crashes and all they seem to say is "wicked" and "cool" and "wow, I bet that was cool to see". They just don't get that there's no reset button in life.

We all know it wont happen to us. Those laws are for the other idiots who cause the crashes.

I'm sorta from the "PlayStation generation" (well I own all 3 models anyways) I think these TAc ads have an impact. Whereas our pathetic attempts at propaganda, they are hilarious... That old ad where the guys come round the corner & slam dead stop straight into a bridge, fuck that had me laughing
