Just passed my Full license test today and thought I would describe my experience so other riders would know what to expect.

You report 30 min prior to appointment. check paper work at counter and wait at the waiting room.
The testing officer comes out and asks you to sign a piece of paper, will give you a radio piece and you go with him to inspect your bike.
indicators, horn, tyres, brake lights were looked at.
next: he gives instructions as below:
Wear your radio piece - this is how I will give you instructions while driving. The instructor will follow you in a car. if you are asked to take a turn and you were not able to hear him, you may go straight, he will give you the instructions again.
if you end up taking a turn, but he's unable to follow you, just go ahead, pull over until he catches up.
You will be asked to take turns, go thru round abouts , see how you perform at intersections, do not go over the speed limit. do not drive too slow either.

he leaves to get into his car, while you wear this flimpsy ear piece that might keep falling off while you are trying to pull on your helmet.
Make sure you secure the helmet with the strap, forgetting this might fail your test. once ready, you will meet him by his car, and he will instruct you go drive ahead and he starts to follow you.

I was asked to go thru a round about, take a few turns and then I was asked to pull over - This is the point he would check if you looked at your mirror to check traffic, indicate that you are about to pull over. and then stop. he will resume test after this.

while going thru round abouts, remember to indicate left when exiting round abouts. when approching intersections, stop if the sign says stop regardless of traffic.
While driving, remember to check your mirror every 10 seconds ( this is extremely important )

i was asked to turn into a no-exit lane.. drive to the end of the lane and take a U turn .. Check for trafffic on mirror, look at blind spot, indicate, turn without taking your feet off the pedals. I was asked to do this TWICE.

Next proceeded to a 70 k zone, which had turns with suggested speeds on them .. the instructor asked me to drive a bit faster as it was a 70 K zone .. but I did slow down to the speed when going thru turns that had a speed sign on them.. i.e. if a curve has 55 marked .. slow down to 55 ... even if you can turn faster - dont. It will give him an opportunity to mark you down.

again, I was asked to go thru a couple of intersections .. always check blind spots before pulling over ( i over did it just to cover myself ) and then on to more round abouts .. drove straight for a bit ( check speed always .. dont forget to check mirrors )

there were a few times I couldnt understand what he said over the radio, I just pointed to my left ear when I couldnt understand and he repeated the instruction.

Lastly, do not forget to put on your L plate ( when you go from learners to full - with overseas conversion ) before going to the test, i know its obvious, but people tend to forget after driving for a long time without them.

You don't. Just your R test.

Interesting... I guess since it is Learners directly to Full, you'd need the L plate. For NZ riders, we take the L plate off once we pass the Restricted test.

Congratulations mate and good write-up.

Man I am so glad I did my Full license in South Africa. There, one does a learners which is just theory test. Allows you to ride any bike but you may not lift another person.

Once you have a learners you can do the Full at any time, even the same day if you can get a booking. But must be within 18 months. Entire full test takes place in the yard. Few bike check, some basic handing skills, stopping pulling off, changing lanes. While thing takes 15 - 20 min done.

When I moved here I just had to sign a form and license was converted to full NZ one.

No hazard identification section then?
I did my restricted test on Monday and it sounds exactly the same with the following differences:
5 'u-turns' at the end of cul de sacs
2 stop signs
2 times through the same round about (one right turn, one straight through - presumably checking to see if you remember to indicate left to exit in both cases)

That's one more U-turn than what I was asked to do on my R test - and I had three testers following me (two were trainees)!

On my Full, no hazard ID at all. Just 15 mins into the test, "OK, go back to AA", then a handshake and a well done, and I was a full license rider!

Hey Denmax, thanks for the detailed info, to me it pretty much sounded just like giving a restricted test. Yes I too had a similar experience when I passed my restricted test last year in October except I wasn't asked to drive in a 70 k zone. I shall be going for my full license soon ( April 2013 ). Thanks again for sharing :)
