View Full Version : Kawasaki 2009 Z1000?

Hitcher

I've never ridden a Kawasaki 2009 Z1000 but I'm presuming others may have and possibly even owned one.

Some questions:

1. What's the rider seat comfort like?

2. 18.5 litre tank. What's the range like?

3. Are there pills one can take that make an erection go away?

No, but if you like I'll send you a photo of my mother-in-law. That'll do the trick.

Had a brief play on one. Wasn't long enough to answer your questions, except that I think the seat would have been a pain on tour. Nice engine, fueling seemed spot on and it pulled well from idle. If I was looking for a big IL4 it'd be on the short list along with a bit extra farkling change for the suspension.

They are a good bike but not as good as a 2008 MT01 with a custom trailer and a vibration that will shake your nuts so hard you wont ever get it up again. Selling cheap. PM me.

Go on Google, and with "safe search" off, search for "blue waffle". That WILL do the trick.

Can't help sorry Hitch. All I know is they look good and there are several nice power upgrades (Certain ZX9 cams and other interesting things)

I'll have a white one thanks

I have a friend who commutes on one - seems to go OK but I've never ridden it... The matte paint finish always looks like it needs a good polish or something and definitely hard work. I'd have though an FZ1 would be better option?

I've never ridden a Kawasaki 2009 Z1000 but I'm presuming others may have and possibly even owned one.

Mt Eden MC let me take one on a Coro loop once. They've been one of my favourite bikes ever since.

Comfort was ideal for me. Of course for me it's mostly about legroom, but I'd be happy sitting on one all day.

Can't comment on the tank range, wasn't paying attention. It'd surprise me if you couldn't get 250km out of a tank in cruise mode, but I'm sure you've drawn the same hypothetical conclusion already.

Erection wise, yeah, they're awesome, aren't they? They're pretty fast. One could win Clubmans races on one. It'd be real easy to jump on a Z1000 and do very naughty things. Are you sure that's what you're after? It's basically a superbike with lowered pegs and flat bars.

More cramped riding position, peakier power output.

I've always felt that if I really genuinely had to be able to disappear over any horizon in any conditions, town or country, like, if I was working as a courier carrying bags of methamphetamine, or something, I'd pick a Z1000.

There was an Auckland motorcycle courier a few years ago who used one. Madness.

I have the 750 version and yep, the seat is pretty firm if you have no arse padding. As for fuel, I've got 350km to a tank on mine and have spoken with Z1000 riders who are getting between 250 and 300kms depending on load and riding style. I can and often do chew through the fuel a bit quicker but it's pretty good when just cruising. As for the "woody" factor, I have a shop mistress. I keep ogling the new Z1000sx in green and black. Sooner or later I'm just going to have to have one.

Lol, I know but my licence would be in jeopardy had I jumped straight onto a 1000. Hadn't been back riding long and the temptation might have been a bit much. Next one will be the 1000 tho.

Sigh. I know that I don't like bikes with only one headlight when they're dipped, and meagre range, no main stand, and mirrors that only reveal one's elbows, neither am I fond nor desirous of bleeding piles, but shit this Z is gorgeous.

jrandom

You call 250km meagre?

mirrors that only reveal one's elbows

If you need to see what's behind you on a Z1000, you're doing it wrong.

shit this Z is gorgeous.

The original Z1000 remains the only bike I've ever wheelied off the throttle entirely by accident.

(The model you're considering has better suspension and more sensible geometry and doesn't feel like a mountainbike with a rocket duct-taped to the bottom bracket.)

Twin low beam conversion kit, fill up more often (that sorts out the sore ass as well) paddock stand and swing arm bobbins and a set of mirror extenders (twin headlight kit and extenders on evil bay) and that sorts out all the nevitive things. Agree on the gorgeous bit tho.

... given that in that last bin vs truck, if it'd just been our man Hitcher on a Z1000, the outcome would've probably just been a gentle stoppie several meters short of harm, yes... yes, I think it could be a good thing.

Pig ugli fookin mufflers though. And really there indeed is the rub with the Z1000, since 2004 Kawasaki have seemed to go out of their way to introduce more and more grotesque exhorst systems with each new edition. What ever happened to the simple beauty of the ZRX1200R exhust system. Hey you so called designers at Kawasaki Its a fookin Motorcycle Not a bleedin object of science fiction

I've done quite a few miles on a 2003 model Z1000, my thoughts:

- Seat padding was ok, but the cantered forward angle was hard to get used to and your legs are spread pretty far apart as you're sitting right atop the gas tank. I did not enjoy long distance trips on the Z1000 and the pillion has it worse, about as comfy as being stabbed back there.

-Gas usage sat at 6L/100Km, as expected for a de-tuned sporty mill.

-Stock mufflers got junked early in favour of a pair of Yoshi's. Sounds sexy as all hell and you SHOULD notice an improvement in the power delivery.

-Rather peaky motors for naked bike purposes, does make onramps fun though, that front wheel really gets air at 7000RPM in 2nd or even 3rd.

I had a ride on one a year or so ago and was way under impressed with the handling, bear in mind I'm usually riding adventure / dirt bikes so that could be part of the problem. I found it a bastard to get to turn, it felt like the huge rear was pushing the front everywhere, there was no way I could get it to lay into a corner, it felt like a fight each time. I would be interested in any comment on that but I rode a GSXR1100, ZRX1100 and Sprint at the same time and they were all very neutral handling.

Pity, I quite liked them before I rode it.

Buy a triple Hitcher!
