Took bike in for a WOF on Saturday only to have it fail for worn rear wheel bearings (17,100 km's - go figure?).
The M50 has 2 wheels bearings on the left hand load bearing side (shaft) and only 1 on the right. Right one was worn out!
So, all 3 bearings replaced, drive shaft dissasembled & checked (all splines greased - early model M50s had a factory fault of no grease) and diff oil replaced for $123.
I've notified Suzuki NZ of the premature wear, as I think 17,100 kms is a bit light for a wheel bearing. Maybe a one off, not heard of any others failing so early.
