Team, the Mrs bought a 2nd hand 42" Plasma. Got a DVD Player thrown as well. She saw the TV working in the shop but we can't figure out how to connect it all up at home.

Its a Sony Wega KE/MB42A1. The back of it has 2 columns of "Video In" labelled 1 and 2, 1 column of "Monitor Out" and 2 columns of "Component Video In" labelled from top to bottom, Y, PB/CB, PR/CR, L, R(Audio sockets). All the usual Red, White and yellow colours.

There is also an S Video socket although we have no connector for that.

We are trying to run the TV through a DVD/HDD player/recorder.

We now have sound and picture off the DVD Player but not able to get the TV.

There are all sorts of cables coming out of the floor that the previous tenant didn't bother labelling as well although we have figured out the aerial cable.

What happened to the good old days when we had a power cord and an aerial connector?

I know its a beautiful sunny day and I have seen lots of you out on the roads but any advice will be welcomed.

I also expect to get some grief a) because the MRS bought the TV and b) because I can't figure out how to make it all work. Go ahead and sling the poo but my life will be easier and the Mrs will be happier if you can also tell me how to set it up.

Cheers

depends what's coming out of your HD recorder thing, and if the antenna is connecting into that, or straight into the tv.

either way, your "video in" will probably be a yellow RCA connector, usually paired with a red and white (L+R) audio connectors. this is now old technology.

the new standard is the "component in" you see.. luminance, chrominace and radiance, blue green and red. IIRC.

audio goes on a seperate channel, either digital coax, optical, or old fashioned RCA.

if you have HDMI connectors (you dont mention) it's just plug-plug-win.

so my thinking is, plug the antenna into the HD recorder thingamee, then get either yellow RCA connector on the OUTPUT of recorder and plug to the "video in" on TV,
or do it with the YBR cableh.

turn on the recorder thingamee then get TV remote, or hit the "input" button on your TV until it shows up.

i'd be out riding, but my inner thighs are sunburned.:argh:

hang ten.
other option (if the recorder thingamee doesn't decode TV):

connect aerial to TV,

then connect from TV's outputs to recorders inputs.

Thanks team, we seem to have most of it sorted now. Your help was most appreciated, especially when I don't even know what an HDMI cable is!!!!

Geez, the big Plasma screen is much clearer than the old crap we've been watching for years.

Thanks again.

It all depends on the resolution as to which plugs you can use.

The attached manual might be of use, I think you may have the model listed incorrectly as Sony don't list a Wega KE-MB42A1, but there is a Wega KE/MV42A1which is the attached operating manual.
