Argh!! Don't think I can make it next Sunday. And I have to go against the big cc boys if I do get there.

East-West Rd is a fine spot for this peps if you are looking for a lot of fun. Well worth the effort and small cost. Get there early for the cooler air which seems to produce the best times.

How come it's gone back to the dodgy road with a bend in it?

Safety concerns I believe.

Yeah!

Bends in a racetrack? WTF?

Yeah!

Bends in a racetrack? WTF?Funny. It's not a race track though, it's just a closed road people are going for top speed.

But word is, that bend gets quite fuckin interesting at 300kph.

I don't doubt it.

Which one, by the way? The one west of the bridge/dam or the one east?

why not join the commitee and have some input instead of bashing it up all on the internet?

Most corners that weren't corners but now are corners at 300kph get very interesting when doing 300kph ;)

Better be fine because I've cancelled my other plans. If it's not fine I blame the organisers. That's their job to be blamed.

Although Dalefield Rd has a longer run up to the timing gear and it had a downhill starting ramp, it did have powepoles very close to the edge of the road side. Whereas E-W Rd has the poles on the other side of farmer browns fences. E-W is far safer for the spectators. Carterton drew bigger crowds but E-W Road will attract a better class of spectator. [pt]

The tricky bit was you found yourself having to change up to 2nd just as you reached the left hander bend while you were still struggling to get your feet up on to the pegs (from a drag start). Some of us blokes can't multi-task, or so women would have us believe.

It would be good if we could start 20 metres further back towards the dam. That way we can hit the bend in 2nd, not mid-change-up.

Mark,

Last year in the twilight running we were starting on the western side of the dam, hope fully that will be the same this time.

A little surprised no one cracked 300. http://www.cliffhanger.org.nz/sprints/results/2012_results.html

I guess the S1000RR is the only genuine 300kph bike?

With that much run-up, possibly.

I assume it was 1/4 mile + 1/4 mile?

I don't know what the road is like, but my experience of doing uh... higher speeds (temporarily closed road of course) is that even little bumps give you a bit of  and the bigger bumps are definitely :shit:

You can only accelerate when the wheel is on the ground too... again related to how smooth the road is.

The road isnt too bad there is one little bump I found tho which made you concentrate a bit more

It's surprising how much difference there is between, say a Buell XB12R and an XB12X. Same engine, but whereas the R hits the rev limiter fairly hard at 230, the X struggles to get there. On the R your arms are more or less relaxed, on the X the drag on a reasonable sized, more upright rider is huge, you're trying to do chin-ups on the handlebars.

Not too surprising... bikes have quite a low co-efficient... then you put the rider on...

Busa runs a 290kph speed limiter this year. not sure about previous years.
All jap manufactures have stuck to under 300 limiters for the euro market
zx14r 2012 needs a ecu re-flash to remove limiters as they arnt as easy as before due to the wheel sensors and traction control running the limiters now. New busa is the same and powercomander does not fix it.

Not sure about the older busas 2005-2010 but someone will know.

Yeah considering the number of times riders have cracked 300 in past years it does seem odd. The road surface was fine, no bumps. There was no head wind on Sunday. The run up for the flying is a fair few kms, so heaps of room.

Someone turned up in the afternoon on a black S1000RR but didn't enter. WHY NOT? That's like going to the pub for a glass of water.

Many who cracked the 300 before did so on modified bikes, especially gearing, which doesn't count in my books as a fair comparison between models. Throw a 50cc scooter out of a plane and it will break 200kph. Where as most of us yesterday were stock I'd say.

I take it you mean the S1000RR is the only genuine 300kph bike in stock form? Aren't the MV312 and Hayabusa and ZX14R supposedly capable of 300?

Not for the last few years on the busa and zx
They both have wheel rev counter for of speedo tied into the traction control on the zx14.

this years busa is limited to 290kph and zx14r is 186mph 299.
These limits are done as per speedo and may not bee true travel speed also.
Both need re flashed on the ecu to exceed these speeds.

2012 zx14r stock re flashed is ment to do 330+ and busa is not far behind with a long enough straight.
