They sold my bike

I'm not sure if I should be posting this. But everyone else seems to post stuff like this. I have just got back to NZ after being in Europe for 4 months, pushbike cycle touring with Sue on the tandem. Then 6 days in NZ before heading to WA for another 3 weeks. No motorbiking in all that time, but boy did we see some lovely bikes and places to ride in Europe. The strange thing was no one was riding these amazing car free roads except Sue and I. All the bikes use the main roads!

Anyway while we were away, they had a sort out of bikes on the farm and the little Honda 125 I'd been using for my rides was sold. Bugger! I'd have to get another bike. To cut along story short while in Esperence in WA the Honda and Kawaski dealer was the same shop. They had the new Honda CRF250l and the Kawa klx240s parked along side each other. After a very good look and talk with the guy there I decided a klx250s was my preference.

It just so happened Experience Motorcycles in Auckland had one for sale at my price. We brought it home with us on the way home from the Airport.

I've been in and out on the Waikaremoana rd and a couple of short rides around home and I'm wrapped. I went next door and visited Jamie for some excellent advice on set up etc which I'm in the process of doing.

I've signed up for the Adventure ride course in the Waikato with Prorider on the 8th Dec, so hopefully after that I'll feel confident to join some of the rides organised here and meet some of you.

Congrats on the new bike, they are absolutely bulletproof.

Had 1 my self in the late nineties as a trail bike. They will rev to the moon and never need anything doing over and above the regular oil changes etc...

Must be a huge step up from the 125, power and suspension wise.

Yes it's a huge jump in power and comfort. I can keep up with the traffic and even go faster if I want to. The suspension is so nice. On the way into drop the hunters off on the Waikaremoana road I rode the bike and they towed the trailer behind the ute for me to take the bike home. I never felt any corrugation on the bike but I certainly did in the ute.

It's so much fun to ride! We live at Reporao 45km on SHW 5 from Rotorua, a 90km round trip in the car. I went to collect the 13 tooth sproket I ordered from Paterson O'conner in Rotorua and 230km latter arrived home. I had heard the seats weren't that comfortable but maybe because I've spent so much time on a pushbike my bum has hardened up as I found it okay for the time I spent on it. I did have breaks for coffees, pies and fuel, A larger fuel tank is on the shopping list.

Hi Brian.

I've been following your posts on crazyguyonabike for years. What a great bunch of adventures you've blogged. A lifestyle to be envied! I'd love to do that too, maybe in a few years when the kids have flown the nest. Not sure the missus would be up for it the way yours is. You've got a good one there!

Yes I'm very fortunate that Sue loves to come along on all the adventures. She will never join me on the motor bike tho. She is quite happy too come along in the van & do her own thing push biking or walking.
I'm struggling to get motivated to ride the push bike on NZ roads after the amazing roads we rode in Europe this yr & getting used to NZ crap drivers all over again. We've been exploring some of the new trails on our MTBs instead. This happens every time I come home & once I've put some weight back on & the warmer weather comes I'm back into it.
I'm really enjoying the klx tho, any excuse to go for a ride. Nearly every ride ends up at least twice the distance I'd do it in the car. I've just finished making a bash plate, which I thought I'd post a photo of when it's had it's last coat of paint.

I spent a few years doing lots and lots of miles on the bikes as I did Taupo and the MTB rainbow rage
At that time I never gave any thought to the traffic but now I find myself a bit. wary of getting back out there
