So this is it. can't believe the 6 rounds went so fast.
With only 5 points separating me and Rogan in the series standings, which left me having to win only one race to take first place.
With little experience on the Taupo track and the weather going to be perfect I knew it would be a hard day of racing to come out on top.
Qualifying:
After finding out on the day that we would be racing the short track I had to learn fast which slip road we would actually be using.
Following Sarah Elliot for one lap showed me the way and after a couple of laps started to pick up my confidence to got faster on the new seals.
I knew that from the laps I had done they weren't going to be fast and after a terrible best lap of 1:28.418 which put me in seventh on the grid and 5 places behind Rogan. But apart from the bad placing i was still in good hands due to my good starts.
Race 1:
After a really good start by the end of lap 1 i was up into 3rd place from 7th and just behind Rogan. And continuing to improve my laps and get faster and faster I could always pass him through the s section and get some ground as all the other racers seemed to brake for the 4th corner whereas i would take it flat out.
after fighting it out with Rogan for a couple of laps I ended up braking to hard and deep into corner 6 and lost the front end infront of me causing me to low slide directly infront of Rogan while in the lead.
This cost me enough points that i knew i would come second. After the race i rejoined and congratulated Rogan on his win.
The only thing that got me happy again after that race was the fact that i had broken the lap record even though Rogan had broken it that very race a lap before.
My best lap was a new PB and LR of 1:23.823
Race 2:
Because Rogan knew that now he had only have to finish the next races he wouldn't push and there was no points competition out front.
I did enjoy testing out a different stickier tyre thanks to Clive Banks and tryed to have a go at pushing for a better lap time. But only managed a 1:25.705 due to being stuck behind William on his minilite 250 which was much faster on the straights.
Race 3:
With no Rogan again, it was more battling with the 250 prolites and some real fun racing with number 17. I still only managed a 1:25.207 with the better tyre but was a good chance not to worry about points and concentrate on improving my riding style while racing.
Huge thanks to the Victoria Mototrcycle Club for their sponsorship of me over the winter series
thanks to Steve Bagshaw of Motoacademy for the coaching and helping me improve my riding style (still not perfect i know)
and special thanks to Dallas Alexander from FotoCD for some awsome shots of my crash LOL
