Hey folks,

What do you do with your old chain and sprocket after you've swapped your new one on? Sell / Give it to me! :niceone: I'm building a good ole project and need about 10 chains and a variety of used sprockets. Not for road use so whatever condition their in as longs as their not completely shagged is good for me. I'm mobile around Auckland and will come pick them up as I'm willing to travel a bit. If you're far away and have a bunch I'll pay shipping. Better than biffing it, help me build! :niceone:

PM or reply I'd appreciate it guys!

Ok folks I've had some questions what the chains and sprockets are for and I'm building a large "stepmill" which is like a reverse escalator for my fire station. We've got a few guys including myself who enter into the charity stair climb events and have compete in the Sky Tower, and recently did the World Firefighter Games in Sydney (laying waste to many Aussies I might ad ;). Anyways the best guys double and tripple step and we train on regular step mills which we can only single step on and getting access to high rise stairs is getting increasingly difficult. So... I've got the schematics for a stepmill and am going to build my own "on roids" version of one and I've bough two broken treadmills for motors and rollers but I need a bunch of sprockets and a bunch of chain as well.

So if you've got any sitting around that's old or just too worm for road use let me know I'd be keen to grab it. Gonna try good ole cycle treads on the shore today where I get my tires and they're always really helpful so hopefully I can score some there. Any other suggestions? Maybe offer beer?

Cheers.

Oli

Really, no takers? No old chains? Warkworth Suzuki said they'd keep a few for some beer, great guys. Got a couple a cycletreads for some beer, they were great too but I've got 3 different sizes and need quite a bit more. Someone's gotta have a pile somewhere no?

Schematic side view of the machine, except mine needs to be about 16 steps around.

So I need quite a few chains and sprockets to make the main driver unit and to go from the motor. I've bought two 1$ treadmills with good motors, load resistors etc. Gonna try and make it look quite decent too, not like something I threw together on a Saturday am. It's going to have to support my weight plus 30kg of fire gear so... :bleh: I this machine already at Tony Martins in Mount Roskill (Such a legit gym! Awesome staff!) and am pretty much going to do the exact same thing. Except bigger cause we need to be able to practice tripple stepping! Too bad my chain and sprocket are still in good shape!

Sounds like a good project. If you have no joy getting old motorcycle chains look up industrial roller chain suppliers as you might find for a non o ring chain at size you can use the price is very reasonable probably about 20-25 dollars a metre.

Cheers mate, I rang a few and year it's around 25$ a metre best price but I need like 10 - 15 metres :S I'm getting there, I've got 3 different sizes now and about 2 of each so we'll see what size is most common and I'll match the donated sprockets to that for the long chains and then use one of the others for the drive side.

Cheers bro :)

Anyone else got any old chains or sprockets? I'm heading down to Auckland tomorrow and you could just leave them in a bag in your mail box and I'll collect? If you're a shop and got a few I can drop a case of whatever beer you want :) I'm only half way there and need about another 10 chains and sprockets. Let me know folks!
