Weeeeeeeeeeeeeelll I umm'd and rrrrr'd and made a few strange noises and thought fuck it and after having queued last time for Halo 3 thought I'd give this one a miss for a month or two. What with circumstances the way they are too many of my evenings are freeing up... anyways, I went and dun boughted it.

There must be someone in here who didn't sleep last night? How iz eeeet?

I wasn't hyped up about it so it didn't let me down. I didn't think it was amazing or anything. But still worth playing.
Haven't played multiplayer yet.

Halo 3 was a disappointment to say the least, went to play it & thought "fuck am I playing Halo 2 again?"
I'm in no rush for Halo 4, tho I'm told they did try to keep true to Bungie's legacy so this will probably be the last proper Halo before it turns like Sonic, a sold out franchise who's struggling to find the glory days of old... Just my opinion tho

Isn't the point of a sequel to be like the original? I thoroughly enjoyed the whole series except for ODST (halo should not need maps). Will get Halo 4 eventually, but I'm still working on Forza 4 so not in any huge hurry...

Hubby went and queud with 15 y old son on Monday night ( had preordered game at Armagedon), came back with tshirts and a cap.

Spent three hours last night playing, came out as happy as a drunk in a free piss up.

Maybe you need to be 15 to enjoy it?

no I mean the gfx were that piss poor I thought I was playing 2 again for a hyped up this gen game it was a massive disappointment especially given what GOW had shown a year before... because of Halo 3 I jumped decidedly on the Gears bandwagon when it came to 360 so I've only dabbled with reach & ODST haven't played them properly. As for Halo wars, I have no intention of ever touching that one

Yeh I see what you mean about 3, I think reach stepped up a bit on that front, was definitely the most modern Halo, but the gameplay/story was perhaps not quite as good as 3. As for Halo wars, we do not talk about halo wars.

I played Reach and ODST and wasn't overly enthused, probably because they focussed more of their energy on the online version instead of the Campaign. I think they lost their way when they moved away from the sprawling landscapes, even the "close" quarter battles had an element of space about them. Whilst I'm quite happy smackin 'em over the head, I'd like it weighted more to having slightly more space, but not too much . It'd be nice to be able to control my AI too (the reason I loved the Ghost Recon series, Full Spectrum Warrior etc...). Gears did nothing for me, prolly coz I didn't give it too much of a chance. And yes, Halo wars got a full 2 hours of my attention before heading to tardme. Halo 2 was by far the best gameplay, although 1 ain't far behind that at all (online too).

As for Halo 4... More tight spaces and when not, too much distance (only a couple or 3 hours in), better enemy AI, a pretty game but nothing really new so far. Praps it'll get better... although it looks like they've probably not spent too much time on the campaign again. Too much running to get nowhere in particular for my liking. Cortana looks damned fine. Probably won't play this one online unless they've done it like the original Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, which I very very much doubt.

I'll probably grab it to keep up with the Joneses. Offline so just co-op campaign play for me and the mates. Need a break from MW3 co-op Survival on Resistance - stuck at wave 42.

Borderlands 2 will keep me busy for a while so I haven't got Halo 4 yet. Looking forward to Skyrims Dragonborn DLC (should be on PC in January), Crysis 3 in February and the next Half-Life game in fuck-knows-when.

Since this seems to be going more into a generic gamers thread (we should probably have one), it begs the question

Can it run Crysis 3?

<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JWvgETOo5ek?version=3&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JWvgETOo5ek?version=3&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

The answer is of course, no, no it cannot, followed by derisive laughter. Was about time to build a new PC anyway...

It can't possibly be better than BF3. No FPS beats BF3.

Can't comment on gameplay, but I would expect the graphics/physics to be noticeably better than BF3.

I bet it still won't have better graphics than the original Crysis with naturalmod. I'm yet to see a game with better graphics.

Looks like I'll have to get both and test them then. Might even have to get the i7 3770K instead of just the 3770 I was going to go for...

Definitely get the K version, the extra money is very well spent. I don't think you can go any higher than about 105MHz bclk on those so you need the unlocked multiplier for overclocking. What sort of video card are you looking at getting?

I heard some people have modifed the multiplier on the 3770, just that the k allows more control of other options and is possibly built to a better standard. The mainboard will be an Asus P8Z77-v pro/tb, which has 8 phase power design which I've heard is plenty for light overclocking, and asus has good hw/sw for it too.

Video cards will be 2x GTX 660 ti

If you haven't already bought the cards I'd suggest going for a single GPU setup instead of SLI. A 7970 or GTX670/680 would be the way to go.

The second one is more to muck about and enhance CUDA capability than for games, and I might wait a bit and test out the system before getting the second one anyway.

EDIT: Crysis 3 is SLI optimised too, so might get some decent performance benefits with the second card.

What resolution are you playing at?

I also hope you have decent case ventilation with SLI, as I've had SLI and Crossfire setups before and they do put out a lot of heat. The top card tends to suck in the heat from the bottom card.

1280x1024, or possibly 1680x1050 if I switch my monitors around.

Its a nice quiet model case as stock, so might not handle it over summer, but overheating cases are easily rectified.

Buy a 1080p monitor if you can afford it. You can get a decent one for less than $300 new. 1280X1024 is just taking the piss. I cut 2 holes in the side of my case and mounted 120mm intake fans with filters to blow air onto the video cards. Worked well when I had my old 5970 + 5850 triple Crossfire setup.

different genre so hard compression, but I think ICEnchancer has better gfx. If nothing else you gotta give them credit for what they've taken the gfx from & to
