View Full Version : Carrying a crate long distance

Yeah I've put a dozen stubbies on the back of the bike before, but only a short hop back from the local offy.

Has anyone hauled a crate long distance on a bike? I'm talking 2+ hours. I'm concerned about two things: clink clink clink fuckin clink making me go crazy, and secondly the piss shaking up and spewing everywhere when i open the bottle.

And yes there is a reason i don't buy it locally. Not necessarilly a good or logical reason but there is one......

If there is one certainty in life it is that the piss will be shaken up and you'll waste at least 1/2 a bottle when you open it UNLESS you go down the day before :-)

foam below, foam around, best you can do unless you have the space for a full spring loaded bed with stabilisers etc

grab a couple old seatbelts (as shoulder straps) and make a pack out of it. stand on your pegs for the ride, using your legs as third-part suspension and abs as fourth (tyres and shocks being the first two).
you'll get a hella- ab workout, and minimally-shaken beer. else just crack the bottles slowly.

they also foam less if they're point-end down.

...i got four pint bottles and eighteen 440 ml cans in a backpack...it was fucking uncomfortable, my neck got cramped up...it was necessary and the neck got uncramped after about two cans...

Backpack might not have as much rattle action....?

Even in the back of a car the bottles in a crate rattle more than a baby on meth.

Assuming they don't fall off, I don't see why they'd be much more shaken than in a car/ van that's a bit bumpy.

I stuffed a few beers in my bag around my clothes straped it to the back of the bike, went upto Urititi, No problems with them. Just stuff some cardboard or even your clothes around them for padding stops the clanking and would help with the fizzing. Just make sure its nice and secure. Its not nice when things start to slide off the back of your bike.

You wont really know unless you do it, so just do it. Make regular stops and check they havent fizzed up to much. Of course, once you open it, you are committed. :P

Put it on the fuel tank. I've carried all sorts of stuff on the fuel tank on bikes, ranging from a 10kg bag of chicken feed to pizzas. Works every time.

Crap, looks like the internet has swallowed those pics. I bookmarked that thread specifically for the hilarious photos.
