Motorcycle sponsorship manager wanted for the Isle of Man tt 2013

The Goal is to compete in the Twins class minimun!
I have a man contacting Ryan Farquar re the costs for one of his machines.

The person I am looking for would be required to deal with obtaining the required funds to do this proffessionally, I want no exscuses for not being competitive.

I will be doing the reqd 6 race meetings in N
ew Zealand before March 2013,how and when is a mystery to me at the moment, but if you want some thing bad enough there is a way to be found to achieve it.

The above is my start to this Goal!

WHAT DO I HAVE TO OFFER IN RETURN

A very marketable name
Proven riding abbillity
awsome test rider feed back

I DO NOT HAVE ANY MONEY TO PAY FOR MYSELF TO RACE IN NZ--- Just making that very clear from the start, not a cent!

I will only reply to positive posts, as I can only imagine what I have opened the door to here on KB hahahah

Who ever I may get to race for in New vZealand would be a personell naming sponsor on my leathers for the TT, giving major International exsposure.

$1000 has just been offered to me to put towards running costs for a bike here in NZ to achieve this goal, they want to remain nameless, but thankyou very much sir

I am all for this sort of thing, I gave you $500 towards your last IOM outing (for leathers I think?) and you crashed. Leathers didn't even get made iirc. (I stand to be corrected on that)
Seemed like a waste of money to be honest...

Edbear

I think the punters would like to see you race in NZ again. I can, of course, offer to provide the necessary batteries and may be able to put some cash in as well. Not a lot, but something to help. I still sponsor a couple of racers here and get requests all the time, but money is still needed to build the business as yet.

You've been a staunch advocate for me and I'd like to help.

I will put some thought into it, not an absolute no at this stage.

Appreciate your situation and time Maha, to be honest I have no record nor correct memory of the ones that did as they did for me! but are also comfortable with the fact that the intentions were there but that REALITY kicked in, and it was not meant to be! Thanks to you ALL again.

Leathers, I have no idea what came about them '' Memory'' sorry

Shaun; I'd just about pay money to see you out on the Motoacadamy IMD250.
Not taking anything away from the current (planed) test rider; but having a man with your reputation and experience surely would put Steve's project in the limelight.

Thanks Bert, I see the potentuall combo as a massive win win, yea It may sound like Im blowing my own trumpet a bit, but marketing is marketing and my my past is still sellable, and as I will be doing the Isle of Man TT races again in 2013, the International exsposure for the Motoacademy machine will be huge.

Not if you have not got and recent injuries that need checking. I was clared to race there again in 2009, but realised I still to f-ddd up in the head to do it

The only requirement is that you have done 6 race meetings in between March - March, to prove that you are not just a total part time racer, and also hold an International license

Err,

Wasn't it you that stated in the Formula 450 thread that MX engines were not designed for roadracing and that they would blow to pieces due to the extended over revving on the longer straights,In fact didn't you state you had been at a meeting where some had self destructed and caused other competitors to crash and isn't it true that the Moto academy machine runs a KTM MX engine ???? :brick:

Shaun, the uncomfortable reality is that since you are the product, the best (and only) person to market you is you.

Can I suggest that you don't need a 'sponsorship manager'. What you need is a sales and marketting coach.

The sport is littered with well intentioned optimists who look from the outside and think the whole thing is awash in money. By giving them the role you are squandering time thinking they will be able to fire a silver bullet.

In terms of the corporate sponsorship model let me make comment on your OP. I'm not being a prick, I'm offering outside perspective.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO OFFER IN RETURN

A very marketable name To whom? Does Womans Weekly know who you are? I'm serious. Motorcycling in NZ is a minor niche sport. Seriously how many people know who you are?
Proven riding abbillity Terrific. Does that mean you're promising to win? And if you do, so what? Its about the journey, not the destination.
awsome test rider feed back I manufacture and sell widgets. How will your awesome test rider feed back benefit me?

The Goal is to compete in the Twins class minimun! Let me interpret. I want to ride IOM. I want someone else to pay. Me Me Me.

Right. Hopefully you've taken 6 deep breaths and are able to accept this as an alternate point of view and not a personal attack.
Now for the constructive bit.

The best support model for you to persue is that of the 'patron'.
Someone(s) who wants to live vicariously through your experience.
Or a group of like minded people who want to be part of an adventure.
They want to ride the highs and lows and be able to get together for beers for years afterwards talking about 'remember when?'

You've said you want to do it 'professionally'. Be careful. Because there is little room for your supporters in there.

Seeing a poster make comment that they have made a contribution in the past that went largely unrecognised rings alarm bells. The minnutes on the bike are yours. The hours off the bike are theirs.

If as you say and I quote from post 62 of the abovementioned thread "these motors are not designed for roadracing RPM usage",Why would you or anybody else consider ruining a whole lot of other competitors day,Standing around waiting for your oilspill to be cleaned up?Especially at a meeting that runs to a strict timetable such as Wanganui.

As it is,We are looking at introducing a rule that will force a number of the 4 stroke machines running at National level events to have an enclosed bellypan that holds a minimum of 3 litres of fluid to try and curb some of the downtime encountered cleaning up oil spills,Do we need to look at banning some engine configurations as well????

You need to do the marketing yourself I think, unless you find a conglomerate of wealthy pricks who just need an excuse to travel and drink lots.

If any motorcyclist could raise the sort of cash you're talking about, they'd be out there destroying Panigale' and S1000rr's themselves I reckon.

we deff will be running SHORAI

Word is spreading quickly now! The whole racing industry is becoming aware of the Shorai brand and all types, on-road, off-road, two or four wheels or no wheels - water sports, from small to large, they are all making enquiries! I've had to triple my orders recently!

Even the aircraft scene is getting keen on them and we are now going through the process for CAA approval. although the Chinese are making LiFePO4 batteries, they aren't a patch on the Shorai, which has its own unique cells. Ultrabatt are probably the closest quality to Shorai but even they don't use the same type of cell as Shorai and their use and care instructions are complex and confusing to the general public.

Shorai are Japanese tech and componentry, developed by Shorai Inc. USA to make a unique type of cell structure specifically designed as a starting cell which means greater durability and power size for size.

Oh, sorry, wasn't this thread an ad for batteries...? :innocent:

I don't want to be negative, and at the risk of teaching my grandmother to suck eggs, I want to share a conversation I had with a professional racecar driver (actually a group of them) last week. I was invited to do one of those "driver safety days" at a racetrack by the sellers of my new car. Supported by the importer, usual format: spend some time going round the track in their demo fleet doing cone slaloms and emergency braking blahdeblah learning about how the car goes and what the safety features do. Then some hot laps with people who can actually drive. You know the drill.

After the thing finished and at the debrief I got to talking to this guy about money and motorsport in NZ. Bear in mind that this is car racing, which is way higher profile than bike racing in this country, and if I can speak generally, it attracts higher net worth individuals more likely to punt up real money to support talent. The obvious exemplar being Colin Giltrap (well into seven figures in any given year), and the group of guys who originally backed Scott Dixon and who now back someone else. The guy I was talking to had been offered a drive in a F3 car next year with some costs covered. He just need to raise the extras. the "extras" was 300000 POUNDS.

My point, and I do have one, is that Shaun's profile, and marketability and reputation, are more highly developed in the UK than here. Might it not be more appropriate to get over to the UK and get hustling, calling on old contacts etc, than doing it here? It strikes me that might be more likely to succeed. Again, bike racers I have talked to are bemoaning sponsor exit, lack of money, cost of competing etc. Usual story but it seems worse lately.

Nothing negative in that post at all Henry BUT BUT BUT

Go to my first post in this thread and read it again

I am looking for manager to manage my ISLE OF MAN TT COME BACK

I NEVER once asked for anything to race here in NZ, I have just had offers of support due to this thread mate.

I also said I would only reply positive comments, thanks for taking the time you have

Cheers Tony. there already is a 650 Kawi with my name on it in Ireland for the twins class. I am happy just with that, but would love to land a 600/675 as well, hence the push for a manager to get out there and find a compettive machine for me.

I will be slower than a bankrupt man paying his creditors untill the flag drops at the TT mate

I need to complete 6 race meetings to obtain what they call a '' Course :License''for the Isle of Man, apart from that, it has now been 13 months since I last raced, and that was only a club race in Aust which I won against modern 600z on a borrowed 2003 STD R6

I now have the TWISTER to ride again at Paeroa next year also, so meetings will be done!

You do NOT need to be a rocket ship on closed tracks to be fast at the TT, you just need to have = Equiptment, Trust yourself, and be prepared to not leave the Island- '' Nothing ventured nothing gained''

The last 2 I Deffinately have, the first one is being discussed this weekend in Liverpool UK
by a good friend and Past Manager of mine from Ireland

I am posting away entries for tri series today, I will be entering the bears class only, and using a friends ( He does not know yet) Used tyres, as I am the Bank rupt man these days.

And yet despite this, are quite often heard to complain about the safety of several of the tracks we race her in New Zealand. This really really really fucks me off. In big part thanks to you, we don't get race the long track at Manfield, even though exiting Dunlop is just as dangerous as rejoining the back straight. You constantly whinge about Pukie. True that, it is bloody good also that some of the riders that have earned there seniority actually have given a lot back to the sport in terms of Giving bikes to be people to race and leathers to lots of young folk and loads of technical advice to new bees and also speaking up about what they see as Potentually dangerous zones that lesser experienced riders might not have thought about untill they were lying in a hospital smashed up if shit was happen.

Initially I was concerned, Shaun Harris working in safety team on high risk plant, then reality set back in NO one pays attention to low line safety phaggots, they are worse than teachers, fail at your 'trade' become a safety guy! Most have some large injury horrific story to tell, of the opposite of being safe, so Shaun I think you'll fit right in, good luck, dont go gulf of mexico / deepwater horizon on us.

He's quit racing and KB. He needs to get his head together and needs a bit of basic stability in his life and concentrate on his family. He's got a regular job now and hopefully will settle down and get things right. He has a lot of work to do but is determined to get himself better.

Well heres a fuckin top hint for him. Start by quitting spinning people bullshit to get money & bikes off them.
That kind of shit doesnt wash well with me & as far as im concerned he can go fuck himself for all the crap hes spun to unsuspecting generous folk.

When I was younger I got him to look at my suspenders on the SV. While doing a basic set up he told me about one of his first race bikes he got on Finance for Colemans. COuldnt afford the repayments and they were going to repo. So he broke it down into parts and hid it in several woodsheds at mates places for a while.

Shorai are unique in using their own development of LiFePO4 technology. The cells are unique to Shorai, all the others use the A123 cell which does have limitations on durability in deep discharge starting applications. Shorai are also designed to be a drop-in replacement for your standard battery and are quite happy to be recharged with any charger except the desulphering one's. It is recommended that from time to time, pop them on a Shorai charger to fully re-balance them and return them to top condition.

Cost is lower with Shorai, too, unless you're being offered a very sweet deal from Super B.

Andrew Stroud and Craig Shirriffs have been using Shorai batteries since last season, as has Marcus Beagely, Sarah Elliot, Johnny Small and Merv's riders in his Kiwistars team. Karel Pavich is using one along with several others, so if you want to know how they perform under race conditions, just ask any of them.

Pretty simple - when I heard Shaun was looking for a bike to race I offered him my 675 to ride in the Tri-Series ( Shaun was instrumental in me getting it in the first place )

I wasn't planning on doing the Tri-Series myself and what the point of a race bike sitting in the shed ? The chances of it blowing up would be about the same with him or me riding it - the chances of it crashing a lot LESS with him riding it - Didn't cost me anything - and probably saved me some dough 'cause I checked the warrant and rego on the van !

I wasn't going to buy into this thread at all but I know Bob and he asked a straightforward question (for which had a straightforward answer)

Shaun has been in the bike racing game for a long time so finding a few people who have him on their "get fucked" list wouldn't be to difficult.

I've only known Shaun for about 4 years but have had a bit of personal and business dealings with him - he has always been straight up.

That's the "facts" of Kevin's story.

Here is the emotional bit.

Shaun Harris is a fucking legend - about 10 NZ titles and TWO IOMTT TITLES

Thousands of people have tried to win one of those fuckers and hundreds have died trying - It took Shaun about 10 years to win TWO and he NEARLY died trying for more.

IF YOU HAVE AN ISSUE WITH HIM GO AND TALK TO HIM - DON'T SLAG HIM OFF ON THE FUCKING INTERWEBB

I have known Shaun for a long time on a personal level and am probably in about the best position to comment. He has certainly had issues of personality with many people and I can understand why some may not count him among their friends.

Not knowing the full story I cannot comment on claims of lying and stealing made here and doubt Shaun will pop in to refute or clarify them. I have found him to be straight up and open with me and he has calmed down a lot over the past months, recognising what he needs to address and concentrate on. He lost everything with his accident, including his mind and anyone who knows about major trauma and head injuries will know what I'm talking about. He very nearly lost his family and has had to knuckle down and change and work very hard.

Yes, he was an "angry Ginger" or more accurately had a short fuse, and at odds with many people but he is changing, calming down and accepting what he needs to do to recover.

He has achieved a lot in his life despite disadvantages and has inspired many. He ain't perfect, none of us are, and maybe we could all reflect on how many we have rubbed up the wrong way and defended ourselves by claiming they got the wrong end of the stick about us?
