Taupo would be a far better track to have the school on from a training point of view as well

Totally Chop! Lots of variance at Taupo, fast/slow switch-backs and hairpins. The location is awesome too with endless accommodation and support nice and close to the track.
Plus us kiwi coaches have the home track advantage on the Aussie fellas......for once!!!:wings:

I was actually wondering about this last night. Personally I enjoy riding on Hampton over Taupo because I love undulations but when it comes to learning, I had a feeling Taupo would be better.
It's good to see I can do my level 4 on home soil, and introduce wifey to the ways that is CSS :)

I have said some negative things about this school in the past, but the last 12 months in Australia and attending a couple of there events with friends has opened my eyes to huge benifit of the training

A lot of people I've talked to have issues with price. Personally, I like the no nonsense "you're here to learn and nothing else" method the indepth, structured way they do things. Yeah it's on the pricey side and would be better if it was slightly cheaper but I still think it's worth the money. Sure, cheaper would make it a no-brainer though ;)

If you want Quality, it will cost you. I can gauantee that any rider doing the courses will end up a safer better rider, now that is 100% better than lying on the road and dealing with hospitals and Insurance

It's actually a shame you're not more widely known as a coach Shaun, I've often told people I learnt more in two meeting with you looking after me than I did in the following two years trying to muddle through it by myself.

Haha how is your tyre wear now that you have completed your levels at CSS? I have notice a huge reduction in tyre wear and required suspension changes chasing tyre wear......investment maybe? thats what I said to the wife ;)
Plus its pretty awesome being able to adapt and tune your self at every track you go to!

For sure experience really helps, But do you have to be faster than the person your coaching in order for them to improve?.....I would love to spend time with GP riders to see what they do but can they describe it to you, me and every other rider so we can use their skills?
That old stupid sport saying goes, would you rather be taught by Rossi, tiger woods, Roger federer or the trained coaches that help those guys get even better?
Communication and a good understanding of Tech points is key to be able to coach anyone.

Best coaching is a mix of both. Trained professionals don't have the insight into a lot of stuff that the experienced top level racer does, while the racer doesn't have the technical knowledge and communication skills of the coaches. They compliment each other.

100% agree, however from the customers point, they would deffinately feel the money they have spent has been very well spent though with a known fast rider as a part of the training group.
Communication and observation is deffinately very important in this roll, best wishes for the new programe

Yeah attempting to chase Chop and mike and the likes on STD GSXR750s is pretty hard work ;) suppose you could say those are fast miles.
I do know the coach tryout/sellection process - however im not sure exactly how it will work with our new setup (the aussie school running the show for us here in NZ) Technically the coaches that live in NZ are now "Australasian" coaches, so you would go through the try out for a possition as an Australasian coach, meaning the sellection/try out would be by made by the Aussie Schools Cheif ride coach and his team.
I can do some research for you thou and contact you vai email if you like?

Totally agree, better to save the pennies and invest in good shit then dump money on crap that doesn't last (works with everything in life).

Hahaha so that's why my Michy Pure's have lasted longer that people can get off there "road spec" tyres :) That's a good point though. I have noticed my tyre wear is heaps less. Been breaking in my mum's new bike and wifey said to me she thought I would have used more of the tyres. I would off back in the day ;)

Yep there are times when the coach can't keep up, lucky we have some coaches that are on the quicker side of things, then we just start taking brake levers off ya.......well we wish we could:-)
This issue has been raised by us coaches before particulary as more racers come along with racebike on Slicks.....Rest assured if the coach can't stay behind you, we have ways of jumping infront of you for a quick instruction.
FYI to those that haven't been the ratio that is typical at the schools is 80% road riders 20% track dayers/racers.

Well you raise a good point - if another track layout suits coaching more, then we will look at it. We tried the extension at Eastern Creek when it was released, and it made coaching far harder, and students didn't gain anything from it, it just created a choke point that slowed everyone down.
We'll see how it goes.
PS we are taking bookings now, if your keen on Level 3 and 4 let us know!!

We are having a meeting tonight - so I will find out if there are age limit for our schools, in Aus there is an parental permission age. I.e Under 16 year olds are required to have parental permission. I BELIEVE they have a minimum age of 12, this does not mean we will.

...and with ACC funding it'll be $150 ;) Wouldn't that be nice? It's funny, I've got shit loads more from 3 courses of CSS with regards to riding on the road than the 4 or so "funded" courses I've done. In fact the CSS courses are the ones that made me feel as though I'm riding slower, have more time to do shit and that it's make safer being on a track.

It's actually a shame you're not more widely known as a coach Shaun, I've often told people I learnt more in two meeting with you looking after me than I did in the following two years trying to muddle through it by myself.
yip i agree with this first day i met Shaun I went 8 seconds faster by end of day and my brother made it into the top 10 all the time on his Daytona with Shaun's help

Is there any need for volunteers, corner workers, marshalls or anything like that? I spent a couple of days as a corner worker at VIR (back in the States) when CSS was running a school there, but haven't done any here.

Taupo would be a far better track to have the school on from a training point of view as well
Who's the coach Choppa ?

VIR is pretty nice, but don't run off track anywhere (not that you would) because there it is all red clay around it. Slippery than baby shit and sticks to everything if you even look at it. Unfortunately at VIR I was on my bro's Ducati (if I had scratched it he would have killed me...................slowly....................... .with a spoon) which I had never taken to the track.......and I was in borrowed gear.....and a whole list of other perfectly legitimate excuses to explain why I was sooo slow. ;) We were using the North course, the right hander (turn 7) up and through 20 and 21 is cool as hell. I've got some video around somewhere from one of the guys that was there with us if you want me to track it down.
Thunderbolt was my first time on a track. Went up there with my bro and were suppose to do one day on Thunderbolt and one day on Lightning. Unfortunately the second day it was raining pretty hard and washed stuff onto the track, so no run on Lightning. Thunderbolt was a cool track though, and I would be really keen to go back and try it again now that I'm ....................... still slow.

Is this Matt? (HD ride days Course control) if so they hey dude, Ash is the man sorting that side of the house (off track staff). I do know that because this is a promoted event CSS Aussie have stipulated some staff requirements, and wrangler and course were something that was we were trying to keep 'in house'. We as Black Crow are hiring CSS aussie to come over and provide the product, it just so happens that Black crows share holders can coach for CSS aussie.
We do want to have more kiwi staff involved PERIOD, be cool to have you there if not this time we are wanting to run more schools in the not so distant future, if your keen fella!
let me know if you don't have ash's contact dets
Oh if this isn't matt - sorry!
