Not necessarily. It may be that he had no freakin' idea, but made an effort anyway. He should've got some marks for good use of imagination and humour.

Given the way the question was asked (i.e. stupidly) you couldn't not give him marks for describing the shape of the graph. The question should have asked what the graph was describing, FFS.

I would have given him some marks for spelling "aesthetically" correctly.
And writing grammatically correct, coherent sentences.

Obviously not a science student...

I thought that too. Given the way the question was asked, he has actually answered it fairly well.
