Long story short.

Bought the CR5 new in '01, never got to ride it and it's stayed in storage since then in my dry shed.

My world turned around then and things changed for me so the Bike got parked up....

I take it out and start it maybe twice a year and run it up for a few minutes but haven't ridden it, never been clicked into gear. Seems to always start on the 2nd or 3rd kick and I run it a gentle few minutes, giving it a few revs with the throttle before I lean it out and close it down, tickle the fuel from the tank, empty the drain at the bottom of the Keihen and put it back in the shed.

What's the shelf life of the Crank seals and I've never changed the G/Box oil since I bought it,

Any tips ?

I wouldn't worry about the crank seals unless it starts leaking or behaving strangely. Change the gearbox oil and engine coolant, check the air filter and spark plug, and ride it!

PS. Do a wheelie.

I'm not sure how much experience you have with big bore two stroke motocross bikes, but I feel there would be an excellent chance the bike would seize the 1st time it got a good hammering. The seals will VERY likely be dried and had it.

Only half as much as you like the sound of your own.

I tend to limit the giving of my opinion for times when I have an idea of what it is I'm talking about.

I beg to differ.

Stick some PSI in that case and see what happens  Smokey, they're right, it's terrible advice.

Don't go confusing you not understanding what I'm saying with me not knowing what I'm talking about.

I'd take it for a gentle ride & then do a leak down test on it as suggested.

You can make a leak down tester real cheaply. the other part is you need to make a plate for the ex port & a bung for the inlet. CR should be a bolt on port manifold so some sheet metal with some rubber glued to it. A bung of plastic for the carb manifold, ideally get a scrap piece from an engineering supply & get someone to turn it to the same size as the carb & a groove like the carb to stop it getting spat out.

The tester you can google, but a 3 way air fitting from engineering shop with a low pressure gauge (say 10 odd PSI as test at ~7psi) in the middle, an outlet to some flexi pipe & an inlet that you braze a tyre valve to to pump it up. Flexi pipe goes to one of the bungs, or you hollow out a sparkplug & braze a tube to it.
