Very tasty, but the description "for up and coming racers" and the price of $25K AUD don't suggest a huge market...

You realise its a replacement for the RS125, so its a production race bike, not a road bike?

I realise that, but it is another class above what most NZ riders are considering I would think.

Do we have a class of 250 racing here that would be applicable?

125GP (who slot in with F3 every now and again). The four-stroke 250cc production racers are also known in modern parlance as Moto3. ;)

Edit: Just looked up the MNZ rules and the correct name of the class would be GP 125 / 250 Mono.

I wonder how many would be thinking of getting hold of one?

Reasonablish priced. I'm not sure how much the 125's were brand new. I like the idea you can buy the engine serperately :).

If you think thats expensive, shoulda inqurired how much a new Aprilla RSW/A125 was!

Yeah that might be useful:pinch:. From what Frits was saying the spares prices for rebuild parts is enough to make your eyes water.

As I had figured given the initial price in the US that was announced, about $35k+ landed in NZ.
That is for the standard bike, it comes (so I am reliably informed) with no spares.
The race kit will be the same price again.
The NSF250 is rated at about 48 hp and 83kg. A large number of the parts are RS125 NX4 parts and some have just been re-numbered NX7 (the model designation).

Bare in mind, that just like the 2-stroke bikes, the bikes we see at World champs will be only similar to the base bike, the rules not withstanding.

The comparison to the RS125 in standard trim is about 38-40hp depending on if you got a good one, 70-75kg at around $20k landed, when they were available. Any race kit stuff was suitably highly priced.

The KTM GPR250 is about 50hp and 84kg and the NZ list price (so I am told by two KTM dealers) is approximately $92k, but no racekit needed. Not sure what spares that would include.

The GP-Tech Moto3 bike from the US uses Yamaha YZF or WR250 engines, so will be around 40hp and they are quoting "under 200lb" which is 90kg (no numbers on how much "under"), at about $25k-ish landed here.

The Moriwaki MD250H is about 40-42hp, about 80kg and about $25k landed here.

The IMD250? We are hoping to be around 40-42hp, around 78kg and around $20-22k. If we can source the new '13 250SXF (I have a cunning plan) then I am reliably informed it will be 47+hp.

Steve, what about spares back up asap that the racers may need, will you have them on stock, as the prices you have suggested for all bikes in this thread are very similar, and the spare parts are only a week away for them via a courier for a proven proffessional race motorbike builders parts supply dept.

I really think you are not going to capture much market place sorry mate, especially here in new Zealand, best of luck

I personally would buy the Honda any day, having said that, bloody good on you all for putting in the effort with this machine, it looks the part and only time will tell the truth in it

Thanks for the endorsement, ummm I don't think.
I would like to see someone from NZ buy NSF250 parts today.
I am sure that the local HRC dealers won't have any parts and the biggest HRC dealer in the USA has only stands and bits and pieces listed.
So getting parts for the NSF is tough right now, except for the fact that cycle parts are largely RS125.
We will have the same back up as any manufacturer with similar lead times.

How much does the IMD come in at less engine?

Steve, to quote you

''We will have the same back up as any manufacturer with similar lead times.[/QUOTE]'' Awnsers the question perfectly! that many would have asked

My comment, '' It deffinately looks the part and only time will tell the truth'':sweatdrop

was meant as an endorsement:sunny:

in the over 15 years i have been selling bikes and parts, this has not been the case, the only motors i have ever seen a part number for is Kawasaki Mules, which run a stationary type engine, complete engines are nearly impossible to buy (to be fair i have only delt with kawasaki, suzuki, triumph and Gas Gas)

KTM are not so forthcoming with engines.
We have been given a price for new '13 SXF engines, but it is somewhat more than a whole '13 SXF bike!
If we were to do that we would buy the Moto3 engine. But then our bike would cost over $30k and we would defeat the purpose.
Ed, no longer running the battery, so can't make any savings there! hahaha, cheers.
No worries Shaun. When the IMD250 smokes all of the opposition (as it will, of course ) then we will have more endorsement.
We are looking at around $15-17k for the kit, i.e. less the engine so that punters can put whatever year engine they want in it. But still KTM. Different brands will require complete reworking of the chassis design and associated parts as you might well imagine, but we can do this given the time.

And before everyone starts going jeepers $$$...

While it might seem high for the New Zealand market (cause most of us are cheap asses); Steve's project does actually include some really top equipment; race Shock/Forks, race Wheels, Custom built race frame.
Go ask a Harley rider how much as custom chopper costs....

What's really impressive is the Frame went from concept to rolling in a month (i've waited 6-8 weeks for mass produced honda parts before x-Japan).

Regarding not being able to capture the market here; well time will tell.
But its going to be the closet thing to an enter level GP bike for under 25k...
and maybe it might offer up some form of cross pollination between MX guys and roadracing (i.e. use the motors you already have out of last years bike)...

A brand new NSF250 is A$18,000 in Australia right now. Considering how the dollar has gone down about 18% against the Yen, I am surprised. I only bought one because they are $18K. A new motor is about A$7K. K1racing in Brisbane imports bikes, new or used. Today there is a brand new one on Haggle.com for A$17795.00 on the Gold Coast. Were I a NZ resident racer, I'd be pushing for the Moriwaki MD250 GP Mono, or RS125's as the ''Junior Class'' regards capacity. Both have plentiful ''çheap'' parts all over the Internet. Cheap as in compared to NSF250 parts anyway
My understanding is that the 2017 Australian Moto3 Championships stipulate the bikes must be standard, as you buy them from HRC? There are about 25+ NSF's here, but in reality, only 5 - 6 ever seem to appear.
I'd be promoting Moriwaki MD250 and Honda RS125 as the Junior capacity class. I've kept my RS and MD250 for when I'm broke!
