View Full Version : Replacement GB500 fuel tap?

Brought my 86 GB 500 to Australia 24 years ago and now need a new tap. Being in central Qld, 200 kms from nearest wrecker means you can't just go down the road and try and find a similar tap.
This model was never sold new in Australia so parts are non existent.
Does anyone know of a substitute tap that can be used.
Tank outlet pipe is about 18mm diameter.
Tap is purely mechanical with 3 positions and outlet faces to rear.
Any info gratefully received. Yes I know that at www.cmsnl.com they are available for 103 euros but I don't want to go down that "shipping" road if i can avoid it.

I'm pretty certain they're a very common tap, the same as the TRX350 and possibly 400F quads.

If it's just leaking you can drill the rivets, tap the holes and throw a new o-ring in it

have already drilled out the rivets and replaced with screws so that I could try and replace the sealing ring ( which is not an o ring but a flat edged thing like a rubber washer) which I think is the problem.
If the ring were an O, then I could change it but it looks more exotic than this and is in a deep groove that makes it very difficult to get out.
Seems like the best bet is to just replace the whole tap with something similar so I'll follow up on your suggestions. Incidentally it's a KEIHIN. I've seen a post on the US web where some guy was asking exactly the same question but there wasn't a meaningful response.
Now I can't find it.
I'm going to Bundaberg in a week so will take the tap with me to a wrecker but it's a 450km roundtrip.

Another option would be to go down a custom route?

Get somebody to machine up a plate with an outlet to bolt to the tank and run an inline tap (cheap as cheap things from eBay) and filter?

Or if you got really clever you could have an adapter plate with a fuel tap off a more common bike on it?

go onto econohonda site and send them an email, they have lots of used and new parts and are pretty helpful
